Does Bingle Cover Cars with Existing Damage?

Looking to renew my insurance and found that Bingle has the cheapest rate.

My car has some existing hail damage though. SoI went through the process to get a quote, it doesn't ask about existing damage. I've looked through the PDS (https://www.bingle.com.au/documents/disclosures/comp_pds_202…) and can't see any mention of them not accepting existing damaged cars and there's no mention of it on the FAQ.

There is one article here (https://help.bingle.com.au/hc/en-us/articles/205362497-Will-…) from their website though that says they don't cover for cars with existing damages - however, it looks like it's 7 years old.

So the question is, do I just assume the article is out of date? Surely, if they don't accept cars under certain conditions, they need to mention it during the quote stage or at minimum in their PDS?

  • It says "You must provide honest and complete information for any claim, statement or document supplied to us and regularly check the information on your insurance schedule is correct.
If you don’t meet these responsibilities we may reduce or refuse to pay a claim, and/or we might cancel your policy.

When you go to the next step of the quote "continue to payment" it asks you whether the car is damaged.

    • oh really? ok i've only gone so far as get a quote, I'll proceed past and see what it says

    • thanks for that - and yep looks like they don't cover cars with existing damage.

geez as it was just a hard no, i don't know why they don't just ask as part of the quoting process.

No insurance company does. It’s like a ‘pre existing’ condition.

        • not from my experience - most of them do in fact.

they just ask you to state what the damage is.

they just ask you to state what the damage is.

…and then when it comes time to claim, they'll just exclude it from any payouts.

          • @witsa: Nope.GIO,NRMA do not. They always ask you that,& you have to declare it.I have been refused insurance because a car has damage on it.

  • Its easy to say that they should cover any car, and just exclude any existing damage. But the problem would be where new damage occurred in the same area. To be sure they weren't paying the cost of repairing old damage, or potentially serious underlying old damage, they'd have to have an assessor look at your car. They couldn't rely on your non-expert assessment and description of the existing damage. Some insurances companies have decided its just too difficult, and its less risky to just to say no, unless its really superficial damage like a scratch in the paint. That also protects them from descriptions of the existing damage that are just plain fraudulent.

It’s one way the cheapies stay cheaper. Refuse to insure high risk.
