Store Not Accepting PayPal and Shipping Insurance Only Cover up to $1500

Hi,

So I wish to buy something worth $5000 of computer stuff from a reputable shop.
But the store website does not accept PayPal.

They offer free shipping, or $64 Fastway shipping cover only up to $1500 insurance.

So how should I go with this purchase?

If I place order with my Citi bank credit card with Purchase Cover Insurance, does that cover damage or lose in transit?
Or will general credit card charge back can cover such issue like the order gets damaged during transit?

Cheers,

  • lost in transit , definitely yes on chargeback , as you never received the goods purchased

not sure about transit damage once you've accepted and received the package which deemed in good condition upon delivery

also not sure how friendly is your citibank customer service if any

  • Thanks.

So generally for missing parcel problem, consumers actually do not need to pay higher shipping options comes with 'insurance' as that's seller's obligation to delivery the product safely to the buyer. And if there's any problem, the seller is responsible for resolving any issues with Australia Post or the courier company used to deliver the product.
In my case, the seller is charging $64 to include $1500 insurance cover (Fastway, the worst courier?), compared to the free shipping option. I don't know why they only offer to cover $1500 when buyers paid $64 extra.

And for damage in transit, if the damage was found before accepting the parcel, I can refuse to accept it.
If I already accept the parcel, if the credit card offers purchase cover, that usually covers for damage within 90 days. I can also try to get replacement or refund from the seller.

    • Fastway standard shipping actually includes $1500 lost in transit insurance.thus I'm not sure you pay $64 is for the fastway service upgrade from their free shipping (assuming it's not fasteay).

Find a local physical store who will price match.

    • Good idea but no stock.

      • For $5k worth of parts I'd be willing to be flexible to what's available and not risk shipping the whole thing if it's bothering you that much.

Break it up into four smaller orders.

i would not buy from them if they don't accept paypal, especially if they only cover up to 1500 in insurance. getting refunds for lost in transit / stolen packages is a nightmare when left up to the business, especially when you take into consideration all the "sign for delivery" packages that are getting signed for by the postie and left on your doorstep, then stolen.

  • I wouldn't worry about insurance, insurance only helps the seller. You will never see any insurance money unless they choose to pass it on after claiming it.

I don't like that they don't accept PayPal. Just on that I would probably try to find another store with a similar deal and accept paying up to say $100 more (or whatever you think is worthwhile for a little more peace of mind)

If insurance only covers $1500, then split your items into multiple shipments.
