Wi-Fi Extender Recommendations

Hey,

Currently with Aussiebroadband FTTC (50/20 speed). Using the modem given to me by Aussiebroadband (Netcomm wireless).

I live in a double-storey house, modem is currently in the study which is at the front of the house. I get like 1 bar connection when connected to the 2.4ghz network when I'm upstairs, so obviously if I connect to the 5ghz, I might not even get connection.

Was seeing if anyone has any recommendations of a really good WIFI extender that's compatible with both 2.4/5ghz connection.

Kind regards.

If your budget allows it, consider going for a WiFi mesh network instead.

My understanding is that WiFi extenders boosts the signal, but lowers the throughput.

Wifi Extenders should be your last resort. I'll just repeat what I said before

but TLDR buy a mesh if you want less issues with WiFi, and the TP Link Deco series is a cheap way to get started

  • Go for Mesh Network.. You will never regret.. Even the basic one will be good.. Looks for some brand new stuff on market place..

  • I had exactly the same issue, two story house, band strength ect. And I bought this https://www.umart.com.au/product/tp-link-deco-e4-ac1200-whol…
Fixed the issue and does such a great job

  • If you happen to be a member, this deal is still going at Costco for a pair of mesh routers. I rate them very highly. They have worked so well that a bought another set for my folks who have a large house and granny flat… it all gets covered by just those two units.

  • Find an electrician who will add an ethernet port upstairs for you and just connect it to something like this for $40~ ( https://www.tp-link.com/au/home-networking/wifi-router/arche… )

You won't be disappointed. Should cost somewhere between $100-$200 to add an ethernet port upstairs.

  • Wifi extenders repeat the signal meaning 50% speed reduction right away.

you need a wifi mesh system.

You can get something cheap to test out first like Tenda Nova MW3 with a 3 piece set for about $70-90

  • I was same like you but the OzB community recommended mesh network. I am very happy with the mesh
