Financial Times Standard Digital Subscription $199 Per Year (Usually $399) @ Financial Times

50

As I was listening to the FT news podcast in bed this morning and pondering strategies for how I might avoid getting out of bed at all today, I was jolted out of my partially comatose state by the mention of this offer for 50% off a standard digital subscription to the newspaper.

The FT is generally not a cheap subscription as far as newspapers go, but for my money it's probably the best in the business. Especially if you're interested in world affairs and/or economic matters. The comments sections of the articles are often surprisingly worthwhile too, if you're so inclined.

The going rate for a standard digital subscription is usually $399 per year, so $199 per year is about half off (which in these parts is considered a good starting point for discussions). It's the same price as their student subscription. Those of us who were recently ignominiously booted out of our long-held Fairfax student subscriptions will appreciate the distinction.

So anyway, just throwing this out there. Not sure what the sentiment here is for paying for news subscriptions, but if you have the time and inclination to enjoy quality journalism I reckon you can't go wrong with this.

Hopefully we'll soon be seeing JV's hot take on geopolitical and economic developments in the comments section of the articles :)

At the end of your term when you go to cancel you will get the standard popup asking you why. If you click the button saying it was too expensive they will offer you a discount. I paid $185 for my last renewal this way.

  • Fairfax…subscription?

Unlike the hun, they still have a half arsed paywall.

  • If you have an interest in financial news, get Bloomberg Annual Digital which is currently on special for about US$200. BB has better coverage on Asia than FT which is more important for Oz

If you livelihood requires real time financial news, work hard and get a Bloomberg terminal subscription

Don't let the name "Financial Times" mislead. They do some of the best current affairs and international journalism out there and this is well worth paying for if that's your bag. You can also get their e-paper only subscription for $99 a year which is a more affordable way to support quality journalism.
