Hisense 58P5 Turning off by Itself Randomly

I have a Hisense 58P5 that I bought back in 2018 that is now turning off by itself randomly. As you can imagine it makes watching it impossible as you never know when it's going to happen. I presume it's something to do with heat, even though it's not situated in a particularly hot room.

Obviously it's out of warranty, but would ACL be of any benefit here? Has anyone had any success with Hisense repairing a faulty TV out of warranty?

Thank you!

have you scan your house for ghosts?

Are there other remotes being used in the house that might be on the same frequency? Our old rental had remotes for the celing lights and they were interfering with our samsung frame TV.

    • The TV is in a smaller room by itself - the only other remote would be an AppleTV remote which wouldn't use the same frequency. I'll try isolating the TV remote itself though and see if that might be causing it.

Definitely worth trying. We had remote where on off button was sticky and it turned tv off

It looks like it was the remote! I removed the batteries and the TV didn't switch off! Probably the old batteries were on their way out and sending erroneous signals to the TV.

How quickly does it take before it turns off by itself? If it were heat related, it'd take at least 15 mins. If it is heat related, see if you can blow the air vents in the back of the TV to dislodge any settled dust.

The remote idea from Gravy Train is a good one. Try that first.

Disconnect as many cables as possible from the TV. Disconnect it from wifi. The TV might be getting switched off by another device.

Let us know if you are successful with getting a free repair/replacement, if you go the repair route.

  • Is their a Chromecast or similar device attached?

  • It must be the Russians or the Chinese /s

If not, have you tried a different power cable and a different socket?

  • Probably need a firmware upgrade. I had a Hisense on the wifi doing the same. Took it off the network and never happened again.
Did you buy it from HN? I could supply you tons of phone numbers of his greedy wife's relatives….

Thanks for all the suggestions - looks like it was the old batteries in the remote sending erroneous signals to the TV. Removed the batteries from the remote and all good.

  • Turns out it wasn’t the remote. TV still turning off randomly.

    • Hey, I am having the same issue now. Have you found a fix yet?

It started to turn itself off randomly after 30 - 60 mins, it now won't even pass the SMART TV logo screen, just gone black completely.

There was an error message saying 'Energy consumption in the current picture mode may be higher than indicated in the energy label. Please use Standard picture mode for normal energy consumption'.

I've tried hard reset (it's the little bottom on the back of the tv, right?), didn't help.

Asked a local tech, he said it's either the power supply that needs replacement or the LED’s at fault.

Surprised that I am not the only one having such a problem! Bought it brand-new, really light use, located in an apartment unit…

Nope, never found a solution - bought a new TV instead.

        • That's unfortunate but probably not worth fixing a 4 Yr old TV . Hope you like the new TV.

        • Thanks for your reply. Yea I was told the main board is probably dead. It's like around $100 to buy a replacement through eBay, but the labour will be like $200 up…so I will probably just get a new one..
