Typhoon Gaming Chair ($79 Exp), Typhoon Pro Gaming Chair ($119), Typhoon Prime Gaming Chair ($149) in-Store Only @ Officeworks

1091

Officeworks are clearing stock on old gaming chairs to make room for new model of chairs. It seems like they have pulled most of the stock off their website but you can still find them in store. At this price point it may be worth considering over other chairs but comfort on them seem to vary so it may be wise to head in-store and see if you can try them out. Seems like you can’t click and collect them so you have to go into store to purchase them.
They aren’t the best of quality of chairs, reviews seem to suggest that the padding flattens quite quickly, the mesh frays easily (on the Typhoon Pro), the padding deteriorates with moderate use but YMMV.

You may have to call your nearest Officeworks to double check if they have stock before going in. The Officeworks stock checking website seems to be accurate as of 28/03 at 8:30PM as this was Northmead’s stock of the Typhoon Gaming, Typhoon Pro and Typhoon Prime.

If you are interested, the chairs replacing these are the Typhoon Raid, Typhoon Pro 2 and Typhoon Prime gaming chairs. The Typhoon Raid seems to be cloth instead of leather whereas the Typhoon Pro 2 and Prime seem to be just refreshes on the models.

First post so please let me know what I missed!

    Great post

What is the warranty on the Typhoon Pro?

    • +3

Sorry, forgot to mention it! Seems to be 3 years, will edit the post.

  • +26

Gaming chairs suck. Get a decent chair from one of the big commercial brands with 10+ year warranties (e.g., Steelcase, Herman Miller, Zenith).

    • +13

Umm some of these chairs have 150kg weight capacity and an 8 year warranty. That's not bad for $149!

      • +4

It's not the weight capacity, but the highly-adjustable ergonomic design and comfort. The proper office chairs have 3 shift warranties - they're designed to be sat on 24/7 and still last way longer.

        • +10

So could you buy one of them for $149?

          $298?

          • +1

@TheCandyMan2020: Yeah not really a fair comparison is it. Maybe if it were Secretlab gaming chairs but it’s a chair a fraction of the cost.

            • +3

@AlsoBort: Secret Lab Chairs are also garbage.

              • +3

@Laserface: Garbage? You obviously never sat on one. It's offending to compare garbage to that crap.

        • +6

While what you're saying is completely true, you're not going to be able to score a good ergo office chair for these prices

          • +2

@DrDogRespect: ikea markus at $300 is an easy buy for me, like new after 3 years of 9-5+

the 100 - $150 chairs (with their 3-5 year warranties) never survived 12 months

            • +1

@desync: Second this. Have had my Markus (cloth version) for a few years too and still great, seat padding still like new, plenty of years warranty left.

Before I bought the Markus I went through a few PU chairs which all start peeling after a while, and the last chair I bought before the Markus was one from Officeworks with a similar price tag (around $300) and the seat padding flattened within a short period of time (inside the first month or two from memory). Returned for a refund.

            • @desync: AGREED , using ikea markus , comfy and as new after 3.5 yrs of use

            • @desync: @desync can you put the Ikea Markus together without the arm rests?

              • @MrsJones: the armrests screw in with 2 bolts at the bottom, installing them is completely optional

personally the height of them works for me, they fit under the table and offer good arm support during long hours of mouse use

progressive recline pressure and comfort is next level

at work i use to have a fancy Herman Miller (i think it was an areo?) - it was nice but honest i prefer the markus as crazy as that sounds, to me it's more comfortable

of course the aero had no padding and although the padding on the ikea is holding up great after 3 years of heavy use i doubt it would outlast the aero which was basically just a plastic mesh spring setup - that thing would probably last forever

      • +2

yeah but you have to usually ship them to a non-existing company in china

of course with officeworks it's different, the warrant might actually be legit

that being said i agree with happychappy1, gone through countless gaming chairs annually, like clockwork i'd be spending 100 - $150 every year, eventually just paid twice as much for a markus at ikea

comfort, quality and fit is worth 10x - 20x compared to the previous chairs

in the end the $300 for the markus was one of the best bargains available

        • +2

I went to a used office furniture store and got a Herman Miller Mirra v2 for $280. Solid as anything, heaps of ergo adjustments you can make the support work with you. The Markus is showing at $279 so it's not even $300, looks like a good buy. If I was still working at an office I'd probably grab one to use at work instead of the cheap crap seats we got given to sit in.

    • +3

and what is the price on those?

    • +12

Of course I rather drive a BMW over a Toyota………..

      • +3

Until the beemer is out of Warranty and you need to fix something.. then you wish you had the Toyota.. LOL - Note i love me premium euro car's but they are kind of opposite to chairs!

        • -3

Would still prefer that over a pos Toyota.

          • +1

@dogboy: The pos Toyota will last till the day you die provided properly maintained. Can't say the same for a beamer.

    • +14

So a chair for $1000+ is better than a chair for $150? Tell me more.

Seriously though used corporates are way better value - I have gone through an officeworks chair every few or so years to buying a used corporate chair for half the price and dont regret it one bit, though lack of RGB makes me sad.

    • Depends on how much you weigh.

Those chairs are designed for big people.

If you under 70 kg. They overkill.

      • It's more about ergonomics. A good office chair has many more ergonomic options than these cheap 'gaming' chairs.

    • +2

      you are completely right

however I have to add an ozbargain option to your list as those are premium and not really good budget options

$279 - Ikea Markus with 10 years warranty
      https://www.ikea.com/au/en/p/markus-office-chair-vissle-dark…

still like new for me after 3+ years of working from home, amazing comfort

    • Herman Miller chairs seem to be over a grand each.

  • I hv 2 ikea chairs sitting here which i look at selling for half price but no one wants them as no side handles.

    • +6

I prefer no armrests honestly as they get in the way.

      • +6

Especially when you turn to get up, the handle goes under the desk, and the suspension lifts your desk over.. :(

  • +1

seems like the link for the white gaming chair directs to the red chair stocks. was curious if you know the right link for it

    • Thank you! Edited.

      • +1

all good. unfortunately none in vic tho :( so will buy other colours, thanks for the deal, was literally thinking about getting new chairs a few hours ago

        • No worries, good luck searching!

  • +1

I am curious how you guys go with returning these PU leather chairs under warranty when the PU leather inevitably peels off?

On the web site they say this is wear and tear - not covered under warranty.

But that hasn't been my experience in all Officeworks stores….

    • Seems to be hit or miss, from the reviews I'm assuming if you get lucky you may be able to return it. From my experience they are generally quite lenient within the first year with wear and tear.

      • +2

When you sell a product with an eight year warranty, and the warranty doesnt expressly state it's excluded - I think they are running a risk if they refuse to return.

I have been able to return a Kennedy which was peeling after 4 years, but it was only as long as I bought a replacement chair on the spot - which was just another Kennedy…

        • +6

During my stint at Officeworks, we never once refused a return while it was inside the warranty period.
Officeworks are exceptionally lenient on their returns policy.

        • so you keep the receipt for the chair for4+ years just to wait to claim the warranty?
I dont even remember where i bought it from after 4 years

  • +1

I am gonna get a Typhoon Prime tomorrow.

It's 745mm wide. The Kennedy is a massive chair, very wide, and it's only 700mm wide. I assume the arm rests on the Prime are taking a lot of space?

Bear these dimensions in mind as the Kennedy is too big for a lot of spots - if the Prime is wider, it won't fit into a lot of smaller gaming setups…

  • +5

If you are a big person, the weight limit is important.

I am currently around 130kg, but I have been a touch over 160kg in the past.

When you are that big, crap chairs literally do break when you sit on them. I had it happen twice at work and once in a Thai restaurant.

In the restaurant I ended up covered in my broken glass plus food and drinks on the floor, and hurt my back.

At work when the chairs collapsed the metal rod supporting the chair once hit my leg and once basically went up my date - not a pleasant experience.

So if you are a big person, go for a high weight bearing capacity…

    • +26

I am currently around 130kg, but I have been a touch over 160kg in the past.

      user name checks out…

  • literally zero in qld for some of these lol

  • -1

i heard a youtuber say it not a hit with s. it's is hit with s in front.

    • Sis hit? Si hit?

  • Great post. Tempting but am happy with my gaming chair massager bought from Kogan a couple of years ago.

  • I went to Bondi everything seems to be normal price with lots of stock. I didn’t bother to ask because I don’t feel the chair comfortable for long period of time. I hate the seat tilting mechanism with gaming chair, i still prefer ergonomic office chair

  • i will pass, i bought last time and the fake leather peels off. looks awesome, but poor quality.

  • Review not great

  • -1

This chair was about $100 in January. Is this chair better? https://www.amazon.com.au/Artiss-Executive-Adjustable-Height…

    • I am curious about this one as well. I dont see what the name brands offer that this chair doesnt…

      • +3

The reviews kind of answer that, you get what you pay for.

Based on the quality of the chair, I can already tell that the Leather is not going to last too long. The padding isn't the best for long-periods of sitting. I am already thinking I probably should have bought the Mesh version instead for cheaper. Overall, it's a chair and I can sit on it.

Didn't last a full year. I bought this chair for my home office in May last year. Today it broke, nothing special, just sitting on it every day like you would do with any office chair.

I'll never buy anything from Artiss again.

There's a lot of recommendation in here for the Ikea Markus, probably best value for money.

        https://www.ikea.com/au/en/p/markus-office-chair-vissle-dark…

    • +1

and its OP fault that not all stores have promotions?

      • -3

        Have you read the post?

        • I've seen the price. Instore

      • Negative votes aren’t directed at the OP, they are for the deal. Since it’s not actually in all stores, I think fair enough to neg so other people are aware and don’t waste their time

        • +1

It would have been better with more information, e.g. which store, what time, did they speak to someone, what was the answer. At the moment it's not useful information.

          • @p1owz0r: That’s true, as others pointed out, it might be they haven’t updated the price tags.

        • +2

The floor price tag probably hasn't been updated yet but it will scan as the clearance price in their system.

          • +1

@Agret: Nope, i went there again today Victoria time, both store keysborough and frankston are showing rrp on their system for the blue prime ergonomic.

    • +8

Did you ask them to check the price in the system? When Officeworks clear an SKU it's Australia wide

    • +1

Did you speak to someone in store, because the price is listed as $249 on the website, so it's incorrect at the rate you say regardless.

    • We bought one last week. Price wasn't ticketed but scanned at the lower price. What's the issue?

  • +5

Tried so many chairs but at the end what really matter is to remember standing up and exercising every two hours. Otherwise nothing can handle a 16 hrs straight sit.

    • +1

you haven't tried the ikea markus then

      • Hmm haven’t but tbh sitting too long is not healthy anyway. Right now I’m standing the whole day when I’m working or gaming.

        • How do you stand while you game? Are you talking about pc or console? And either way… why? Hahaha

    • nothing can handle a 16 hrs straight sit.

But to be an elden lord..

  • +2

Had been looked tempting until I checked on the reviews at the bottom of the product pages.

  • Does NRBY work for other websites or just officeworks

  • +1

I've got the typhoon pro, I hate it, I like my chair at work a lot more. Definitely recommend just getting an office chair from a reputable office brand.

  • Typhoon Prime is alright comfort wise for the price and it is a big chair. The other two are a pass

  • +1

    PU, avoid!

  • +1

I bought a heymix gaming chair for $89 delivered off Amazon about a month or so back. Not sure if that deal is still on but seems reasonable value for those who prefer buying from Amazon

    Edit: at normal price now.

Gaming Chair, HEYMIX Ergonomic Computer Office Chair Heavy Duty Game Computer Chair, Retractable Armrests Gamer Chair with Headrest and Lumbar Support (Purple&Yellow) https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B09M9Z4LBJ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i…

    • That colour scheme though

      • +1

Yeah if you can get around that :)

    • When was the price $89?

      • +1

Was $99 on 8th March. Got a $10 promotion to make it $89

  • my son has the basic one - he's 12, it's totally fine for what he wants and a massive upgrade on the chair he had before.

I don't think I'd want to sit on it for hours though, but i'm probably three times his weight!

    • +5

Your son is lucky. I used to sit on a stool when I was 12.

      • And walk to school 5 miles, in the snow, uphill both ways?

  • +1

    Check the reviews…

  • +1

i bought the costco equivelent, caused back issues.

  • +2

forget all these crap PU leather white label chinese chairs. get your self an ikea markus $279 a proper chair with 10 years warranty

  • +2

Good value @ $149. I bought 2 of the typhoon prime for @ $299 for the office, one blue, one black. Blue is dark so the color difference is not substantial. Not bad for a budget chair. The recline function is a good feature. We've been using it 7-10 hours a day since Nov 21. One of our team members gets restless and fidgets quite abit so you can hear some creaking from the chair but it hasnt been too loud or annoying.. yet. I think its hard to find a chair that doesn't creak anyway. But you might be able to find the source of the creak and spray some white lithium or silicon to reduce it.

  • +1

    Thanks OP.
Just a note for everyone: my local OfficeWorks (Northmead) still has original or partial-sale price stickers on the chairs - all higher prices than listed here on OzBargain.
But when you go to the register, these OzBargain prices are the ones you will be charged. They are in the OfficeWorks system, even if the higher prices are still on the floor.

  • +1

Please read the reviews on Officeworks before deciding to buy this:

feels like you're sitting on a wooden floor

    This chair is very uncomfortable.

I would rather sit on the cardboard box it came in

I actually have bruises on either side as it's very hard.

    etc.

Sounds like it's suitable for a child (or small adult) for short sitting periods.

    • I would rather sit on the cardboard box it came in

.. my (profanity) of a cat been leaving reviews again.

  • +1

Thanx Op, only the JBTYPGAMBK at my local store..
Sat on the sample, felt pretty weak and wobbly.. purchased it anyway..
If I didn't use my impact driver to install the bolts on the chair, I wouldn't be sitting on it now.. two of the bolts needed to be forced in.. after installing, its much more solid than the demo chair in the store.

  • I paid full price for one of these chairs a while back & do not regret it.

I sat in pretty much all the chairs available in Officeworks & these where the best for me & a step up from the leather office chair I was using previously on a ergonomic basis (I was’nt planning on buying a gaming chair).

Interestingly it took a while to get use to the chair, as it was very different to what I used previously (and I wondered if I’d made a mistake at first), but it’s been much better on my back & I find it very comfortable now.

My two cents & I recommend people try before they buy, it’s like shoes you want to get something that you personally find comfortable.
