Daawat Devaaya Basmati Rice 5kg $10 (Save $10) @ Woolworths

230

Seems like a nice deal. Great tasting rice. Good to see Woolies stock international foods. Their range of Mexican food is impressive.

I found the Daawat everyday basmati rice better from Coles it's a medium grain and doesn't dry out as much as this version however it is personal choice and this is a good price.

    • What's the best basmati with tumeric?

      • +3

I've tried 5 or 6 different rice types ,brands and found the daawat the best for me and I have added Tumeric to it a couple of tries with peanut oil and it was pretty tasty the family said and I'm no chef .

Sella is a different kind of rice. Nothing to do with chemicals.

          • @rehan770: Sella is just parboiled rice

  • I'm waiting for the India Gate Basmati Rice for $12. I think it's very rare deal.

India Gate is what we have at home too.
Preferably India Gate Classic, which is better than India Gate Premium.

      • Sure. That's what I meant too. Sometime back, I bought 3* 5 kg bags for $12 each from Woolies. :)

      • I'm interested to know why you would say the classic is better than premium? we have been eating IG Premium and love it. We have been assuming the quality of India Gate is pure basmati without any chemical or additives - anyone has any thought on this?

        • The classic is aged for two years rather than just one year with the premium, I don't know if the grade/quality of rice is also better in the classic but I suspect it is.

Back when I was comparing them the classic was only $2-3 extra per 5kg bag, and I thought the classic was well worth the extra expense.
