Anyone Found a Good Long Lasting Rechargeable Portable Motion Sensor LED Light

So I bought some Rechargeable motion sensor LED lights awhile ago and they are great.. The really big ones light up an area at night and you don't even have to turn on the light some nights if you are just going for quick run to the toilet or fridge.

Unfortunately these under cabinet/closet etc style lights have a small battery or just really drain a lot of power and sometimes only last a few weeks at most before needing recharging via micro usb.

So I'm wondering if anyone has found the holy grail or jackpot of motion sensor activated rechargeable LED lights that might have a sizeable battery in them or just really great power efficiency.

With my current ones I have tried plugging it into a 30,000mah power bank but for some reason that did not work and it was just left on permanently over night.

Also this method would not work in some sites as the kids would just steal the power bank or worse.

So I'm wondering if anyone has come across a really great portable sensor light solution that can be put up really high basically on the ceiling where kids cannot reach it.

I have a feeling a kid will just get a stick and just prod it off but going to give them the benefit of the doubt and give them a few chances before trying another idea because currently the current lighting solution is uh not safe imho atm so looking at other options.

Thank you.

It's nice to see the under cabinet closet style motion sensor light fad catching on lots of options now that was not there years ago but the next step these businesses need to do is work on larger battery for longer battery life.

Using a power outlet for the sensor light in the bathroom is not an option thus the portable and rechargeable nature of the item is compulsory.

  • Not rechargeable, but I have been using one of these since this deal 18 months ago: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/576904. Have not had to recharge yet!

  • Those PIR sensor LED light doesn't consume much current when the LEDs are OFF. However, they can draw quite a fair bit of power when the lights are ON, depending on how many LEDs in the light.

With my current ones I have tried plugging it into a 30,000mah power bank but for some reason that did not work and it was just left on permanently over night.

First of all, modern power banks tend to turn off themselves if current draw is too small. And for your case, when the light is OFF, or the battery is fully charged, the light itself will only draw a very small amount of power, thus causing the power bank to turn off. That's my guess without knowing the exact model of your light.

Secondly, without knowing your layout, see if you can hook up a small solar panel near a windows maybe it can trickle charge the light? Again, just a wild suggestion without know your home layout.

If you feel adventurous, and comfortable with DIY, maybe can open it up and see whether you can replace the battery inside with higher capacity ones :)

    • The solar panel idea sounds like a good idea.

Maybe we can drill a hole through the fly screen to feed the cables inside.

Have thought about doing some diy just no time and energy most days maybe when I get fired or let go from my job haha lol :)

  • I have a couple of these in the garage and carport: 100 Led Solar PIR - about $16 from ebay. The solar panels are connected by a 3-5m lead so can be mounted somewhere sunny. Had them for about 3 years now and haven't had to change the battery. Depends how often the lights are triggered. YMMV.

For inside the house I use a lamp with 6 led lights and PIR to light the hallway floor which uses 2x Ikea AA LADDAs. Lasts a month before recharging.

    • I'm basically looking for something to light a bathroom up constantly through the night for events.

      Yeah.

If you have links to your above solutions I would love to have a look at them.

  • Link for solar led PIR: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/124510969090?_trkparms=ispr%3D1&…

Could maybe put the wire through the flyscreen window and mount on gutter or somewhere that gets sun.

The one below is not the same as the one I have. Ebay don't seem to sell it any more. Mine uses AA batteries. The one below has a rechargeable built in but the picture suggests could work with a power bank - which is what you might be trying to do?

Oh this is for work and the person responsible for that won't or I don't know.

          Yeah.

Me and another co worker are just trying to keep the toilet illuminated.

I have the eufy led light, not rechargeable, takes 3xAAA batteries but lasts 6+ months (dependent on frequency of usage). I have them stationed on the bathroom floors and stairs/hallway.

  • Update: ended up just using some normal standard under cabinet closet motion sensor lights and they worked a treat

Thanks all have a nice Sunday

  • I know you're not talking about solar ones but the blitzwolf OLT1 have been great. They are super bright and just keep working years later they still work.

I've also tried the Baseus PIR Motion Sensor Rechargeable Night Light that were on ozb a while ago but they were complete crap.

I too have found that the cupboard ones all run dry or stuff up quickly. Not matter which one Ive used.

    • So far the closet ones or under cupboard ones are ok for indoors they don't last very long though as they are meant for low usage I believe and not as replacement for main lights which I have done in my kitchen and bathroom areas and hallways.

With my constant daily usage they last about a week before needing a charge.

But I can bee line to the fridge or toilet and back to my room without having to touch a light switch so pros and cons.

      I love automated lighting.

Just need to find a good solution for my front yard now.

Using some aldi 4 pack $19.95 solar led lights for some steps that don't have good visibility at night.. Because of the angle they don't charge sometimes during the day via sunlight but light wise they are pretty good.
