Android Tablet Recomendations for Reading / Light Gaming - under $1000

Hey guys, just looking for an android tablet that's general purpose will be reading manga (using Tachiyomi) and playing Master Duel (on high graphics mode).

I've taken a gander at a few different tablets in the space but apparently there aren't a lot of options for a good Android tablet being limited basically to Lenovo and Samsung. I've seen decent things about the Samsung Galaxy Tab S7/8 and the Lenovo Tab P12 but want to get a better idea of how good reading is for them.

Regardless I'm willing to take any suggestions, I would have rathered an iPad but they don't have a good Tachiyomi replacement so it's out of the picture. Thanks in advance.

The standard Samsung S8 tab will be the best. Get it for under $900 at the education store.

    • Cheers for the suggestion, I've placed an order. Also bonus kudos for the education store tip.

  • Tab S7 TE should work fine

After doing a fair bit of reading and work typing in bed (with swype) I bought a Galaxy Tab S6 Light for use in bed (work and reading) and it wasn't like I hoped. They're very hard to hold compared to a phone, and with the screen going to nearly the edge it's a matter of constantly tapping the sides accidentally. With some small design changes like a way to hold it from the back with a finger holder it would be incredibly useful, but even the cases only attach with magnets, and the whole thing is a bit of a disaster to use as a held product. They only seem good for seated use where you hunch over it.

Thankfully it's got a lot of us as a TV on an exercise bike which I bought specifically due to having a tablet holder slot. The Samsung bloatware still constantly opens every time the side buttons tap the holder and minimize Netflix or whatever, something called Brixy.

  • Have not found a good replacement for my light weight Samsung galaxy tab s2 8.0 and Huawei mediapad m3 8.4

They are definitely showing their age but all other tablets are pretty heavy or too large for media consumption or gaming imho.

Waiting for the tablet companies to come to their senses and make another nice 230g - 350g powerful tablet in the 7 - 8 inch space.

Might take 10 more years at this point we got geniuses in the top design decisions atm.
