Mitsubishi Electric Zone Controller Question

Hi, we have a Mitsubishi Electric Zone Controller system in our house (aircon).

The previous owner said that the main zone (living room) needs to be on to be able to select any other zone in the house to be on.

I cannot choose to have the bedroom zone on unless the main zone is on. Basically, I put on the unit and the main zone will be on and then I can enable the bedroom zone to be on as well.

It does not make sense to me. How do I change the settings so that I can choose which zone to have on.

Current setup is wasting energy :-(

  • Where is the return air vent and thermostat?

  • There are return air vents in the different rooms. Thermostat is located in the living room…

    • It would blow your mind then to know it's the other way around.

  • This is the thermostat. It is located in the living room. https://www.mydeal.com.au/mitsubishi-electric-wired-backlit-…

  • Just does not make sense if I need to keep the biggest room cool if we do not use it (night time)

  • Reverse cycle aircon has a single return air and multiple outlets. The room where the return air inlet is is where all the air goes back to (hence the name). For an efficient system, the cool air pushed into each room comes back into the return air to be cycled.

Therefore since one zone has a return in it, then it must always be on because otherwise the air isn't being cycled, it's just leaving the house.

  • This is known as your Constant Zone, explanation here.

Sometimes you can change this zone (check your manual) but be mindful it is always on, so you might not want that to be your bedroom.

  • Thanks for the explanation. I guess it makes sense for it to be the living room I guess.

Time to get solar panels :-)
