Moving/Sending Boxes Interstate, Any Recommendations?

I have a lot of stuff, need to move to Perth from Sydney.

Is that better for me to buy Bunnings boxes (104L) and pack them myself?
or should I find a company to pack those and send them?

I recon it would be 5- 10 boxes (104L)
3 guitars.

  • Ikea bags are cheap and foldable. You will be surprise how many stuff you can put in one bag. If you need moving boxes, go to local toy store, they usually have a lot of big ones

In terms of Ozb, or how much money you have or someone else paying for your move?

    But for boxes https://www.kss.com.au/box-shop/box-it

    • Budget $1000

      • Do it yourself then :)

    • Similar retail pricing with Natioanal Storage. Most likely cheaper if you close to Bug Red Packaging in Seven Hills.

  • Try a local HN, JB or OW. Ask the storeman nicely if they can save some for you. Offer a free pizza etc, as they most likely carry take any cash.
The big ones for guitars maybe a problem.

Buy some bubble wrap, from OW/Bunnings, but I would possibly put a big length of wood slightly longer than the guitar as a splint.

  • I've moved 2 times doing it myself and 1 time paid…

I'd never do it myself again, but that also depends on how much shit you have to move/

    That's a huge variation.

Get matching boxes. It makes it a lot easier to stack without wasting space. Storage centres sell boxes so check the websites of local ones as they may have a bulk special cheaper than Bunnings.

Do you have hard cases for each guitar? Gig bags won't cut it for transport to Perth. Even the $100 hard cases will be better than nothing.

Bunnings sell cheap and good boxes. As it's a long move get the good boxes.

If you want to save money you can get second hand boxes from storage companies.

If you are going to get a removalist to move the boxes, then buy the boxes from them.

    • If you are going to get a removalist to move the boxes, then buy the boxes from them.

      This.

In addition to removalist, also look for freight forwarders. They'll have different service levels like door-to-door, depot-to-depot, door-to-depot, road, air … list goes on. They can almost certainly get you boxes too (possibly free). Their box sizes might be optimized for palleting, if the transport mode requires it.

      • And if you buy the boxes from the removalists, I think some are happy to buy them back from you if they are still in good condition.

  • I purchased boxes from pack and send and the loaded myself and dropped them at a pack and send location. Found service to be good and cheaper than I expected. Found it was easier to buy their boxes so then it was just th weight of them that was in question.

if you packing urself and need boxes
buy toilet paper and paper towels from amazon, the large packs
i just got some and they gave me a large box

    • Then how are you going to transport the 10 boxes of toilet paper to Perth?

        • one box could easily hold 2
        • crap alot
        • donate
        • use it has stuffing for the box around items
        • That makes sense. Cheers

          • @MS Paint: they have been doing this less, I had some toilet paper in a plastic bag. which is fine

but the paper towels was in a big box
get 30 cans of coke is similar too, not as big but close
