Bought a panasonic lumix ft3 from eGlobalDigitalCameras.com.au
Of course after the first use it leaked and corroded inside. Sent it back to them at my cost to have it repaired/replaced and of course they say yes.. it is corroded inside but the seal tested out ok, so I must have mishandled it. I also own an ft3 and have had it for years and know how to wash and dry this camera properly. I know I have not mishandled it.
Anybody any ideas on how to proceed? I assume that they always say its not a manufacturers fault so they dont have to replace it, and then charge you to send it back so you don't bother…
Any ideas anyone?
Many thanks.

Thank your for your return and we have just received the returned item.
However we have found that the item returned does not comply with our Warranty and Return Policy due to the reason:
- Water in leakage or Liquid damage is not being covered in our warranty terms.
-The reason for the water leaking in may also be due to the improper usage of the camera as we found that your camera is water leaking from the battery cover, but the waterproof rubber is intact.
- The technician’s inspection confirmed that there was corrosion inside the camera which was caused by water, the technician proceeded to clean the exterior of the camera and the waterproof seals as described in the user manual, this is done to ensure that the seals are not broken, there are clear statements in the user manual regarding the cleaning and maintenance of the camera seals and that if these instructions are not adhered too the seals may fail resulting in a leakage and this neglect or misuse. After the technician cleaned the camera they pressure tested the camera to the manufactures specifications. After this they where able to confirm the camera was operating with in the manufactures guidelines, there for the problem experienced was either due to not following the maintenance instructions or not drying the cameras external surface area before opening compartments there fore resulting in neglect / misuse of the camera this resulting in it not being covered under warranty
We can request the camera to be sent back to you; however you need to pay for the freight charge to send the camera back to you which is [$15] as this is a non-warranty service job.
Alternatively, if you want to proceed with a non-warranty repair, we can issue a quotation.

eGlobaL RMA department
About the only thing you can do is file a chargeback with your credit card company, if that is how you paid. Tell the credit card company that the camera failed after first use, the merchant has the faulty goods back in their possesion, and is refusing to repair or refund the product.
Unfortunately, no Australian consumer laws apply to international websites such as this.
If you are adament that the failure is not due to your negligence, then you have a really strong case. The merchant's credit card processor will contact the merchant and inform them there has been a chargeback, the reasons you have given for the chargeback, and a chance to defend themselves. The onus of proof in this situation usually resides with the merchant, and they would need to get a statement from an authorised service agent for the camera saying that the damage is due to misuse.
