Natural Hair Colour Options for Men? (Covering Grey's)

Hi,

Just wondering what everyone uses, preferably natural?(as natural can possibe)

I mainly want to colour the sides of my head, but currently what I use seems to mark my skin for 1-2 days after. If I miss a bit on my ears, or my hands it leaves marks

Sol-fine crema colour mixed with an activator is what I use currently and it's a pain.

Thank you

I think at least 50-60% of OzBargain are middle-aged Asians working in IT, so I don't think many on this site colour their hair different colours. Anyone correct me if I'm wrong.

    • I'm looking to colour grey hairs, and I'm caucasian 🤣

I reckon you are indeed "wrong"!
Judging by the poor English expression in most of the posts on OZB I would put the % of non-native English speaking members at 70% plus.
Of course there is nothing wrong with that and every member is entitled to an opinion.

I would/should also add that I do not need to worry about colouring my hair as it is falling out too fast to worry about that.

Wow, I judged by the poor English skills here that most were Frankston dwelling Collingwood supporters with nary a tooth between them…

        • (North) Frankston?

  • I use restoria .

Use lotion and add to the side of your head below hairline and ears . Comes off clean when washing

    • But when I have a low fade, you can see my skin.

How do salons just colour men's hair short and no residual colour is left on the skin?

      • Hmm try the one I use didn't see skin colouring with that

    Nothing, if it's natural

    • I'm sure I see salons mostly promote 80% natural, so I guess not totally natural.

    • Very good point

Just embrace it my friend. No one cares that you're going grey. In my experience men who dye their hair seem to become the laughing stock behind their backs.

      Wot e said.

    • It's just that it's grey on my sides, and goes around the edges only.

I have no grey anywhere else, so it looks weird.

Otherwise I wouldn't care so much

      • Maybe a haircut with a fade then? Even a skin fade?

        • Yeah, but their so annoying.

$50 a fade, and you gotta go in every week or 2.
I don't mind growing my hair, but I prefer to colour it as it grows

Problem is there will come a time when u have to stop dying and it will be a shock as it grows out. Dont do it - u probably look sophisticated rather than weird.

        • By that time I'll have more greys throughout my hair

At the moment it's on the sides and it just looks annoying

  • I hope to follow my dad's lead and not have any grey hair until I'm over 60. But there are a few grey beard hairs sneaking in.

Either way just let it ride, the more you stress about it the worse it will get.

  • what's hair??

    • A protein filament.

Go grey. I embrace my greys. They make me look worldly. Old dudes with died hair just look like paedos. It’s about one rung down down from combovers.

  • I look more mature with my grey hair.

  • I use a razor or clippers.

Brand called Bigen used by my dad. Comes in a powder form or premixed bottle at Asian shop and spice shops.

Originally Japanese but could be made under licence now.

    • I'll look into it

      • How old are you mate?

  • What colour is your hair? Or was it before it went grey even?

There’s no reason why you can’t also use hair dyes marketed at women which generally have more colour options. For short hair, brush application may help you avoid the scalp. Without seeing your natural colour sometimes going a bit lighter than your natural colour can help hide the greys more/look more natural.

You could also actually go to a hair dresser for advice. Sometimes they’ll do a mix of highlights plus a semi permanent colour to kind of blend the greys.

    • Dark brown I think, maybe medium brown?

There has to be a way these days, esp with men and short sides there's no way around it not going onto the scalp.

Maybe I have to try a mainstream brand or something

      • As far as I know the brush and bowl technique is the main one for not getting it on the scalp with short hair, so you're literally painting the hair. A semi permanent would be less likely to stain too.

'Just for men' seems popular based on reviews, it's permanent I think https://www.chemistwarehouse.com.au/buy/5699/just-for-men-ha…

TBH though, I reckon the guys look better with the grey coming through in the photo and video used to advertise the product.

  • Embrace the salt and pepper

L'Oréal color #3 (darkest brown) is a very good product.

    embrace the greys

long term all those chemicals in your hair aren't good for you and make it worse the more you do it.

when roots come in, its time to dye again. never ending. i just embarrass my greys and cut my hair short. haircut ever 2-3 weeks, and you see less greys.
