Do I need to declare infants (less than 1 yo ) when booking hotels? A room says it can accommodate 5 but when I add on a child 0 yrs old, prices go up! We won't be using their beds for them and bringing our own portacot.
How about a toddler 2yrs old? Again they won't be requiring extra bedding…
I have a toddler plus twins under 6months and if I type in all kids into the my search for hotels, it becomes extremely expensive!
I've so far booked a hotel for 2 adults plus 1 child (and didn't mention my 6 month old babies…)
Has anyone got experience with this?
Thanks!
Do I Need to Declare a Child 6months of Age When Booking a Hotel? (Vic)
Comments
I just thought a child over 2yrs old would be fine to charge as they possibly need a bed but I wouldn't think so for infants under 1, or in my case 6months old. It's additional $300!
The room selected accommodates 5 people (2 rooms). So it's not like I'm trying to squeeze my kids into a studio room etc.see this OP https://parenting.stackexchange.com/questions/1630/should-i-…
I guess as I thought , declaring on the day might be higher. just call and ask them is my suggestion. also ask what amenities is provided for babies
Call. Usually when they find you are not using additional bedding or amenities there's no charge.
thanks, will give them a call. All the bookings.com and wotif.com when you add extra 'children' even at 0 yrs old, it adds $$ to the total accommodation even though the room can accommodate up to 5
Question..
if you stayed in a room by yourself…
Went out and picked up a girl/ guy from a club and went back to your hotel… you intend for your new friend to stay the nightDo you tell the hotel about your extra guest?
Sometimes some information is necessary.. and sometimes it is not.
They can see from the cameras
I’d say in most instances hotels wouldn’t be fussed (in Australia), bring a few girls/guys back, they’ll likely have a problem as most places have a no party policy.
A place I stayed in Florence watched us come and go very intently - to the extent they saw me bring back ice cream (in a tub) they told me I had to throw it out due to a ‘no outside food’ rule. They didn’t have ice cream on their room service menu. I was pregnant at the time and told them in no uncertain terms I’d be eating my ice cream - they ended up giving me a spoon to eat it with. I can’t imagine that place would have been okay with an extra person.
Most room rates are for 2 regardless. The increase in cost for more bodies, is extra services used (water for example) and bedding.
In your case, your extra guest would be fine.
I wouldn't declare it if they are trying to charge extra for an infant - that's ridiculous. I actually often forgot to put my daughter on bookings the first year - the hotel never cared/checked.
The popular wisdom is that you don't have to declare anything you can fit in a bag, unless it makes noise.
I’m now getting images of body bags.
I think putting the kids into the website is where the issue is. I would search for the room without the kids, then ask once you’ve narrowed down the hotel. Generally I don’t think hotels charge for infants unless you use a cot and then only some places charge a cot fee. I have done both, just rocked up with the infant in tow or let them know after booking the room, mostly the later but haven’t had an issue either way. Now days we book 1-2bedroom places most of the time as we want to enjoy the living space when kiddo (2) is sleeping.
I would say in general you should tell them as there are occupancy limits for fire reasons. It shouldn’t cost more unless there is extra rooms or extra bedding.
The room I am booking is a 2 bedroom with max 5 ppl so definitely enough for 2 adults, toddler and infants. It’s just when I checked price diff when I added all my kids that price shot up to almost $300 more
I added my 2yr old to the booking which in itself added extra $ to the cost per night but I didn’t think adding infants necessary as we have own portacots. On bookings.com they said cots free of charge.
They declare themselves don't they? Generally, while everyone else is trying to sleep.
Rule 1 of hotels, airbnb etc. Always book for a 1 single adult regardless of the amount of peeps with you.

You haven’t had management ask you for extra $ when they find out? Never attempted this for the fear of the awkward situation. Worst case is they all you to leave.
Haven't seen "management" for years. Generally key lock boxes with codes given by email these days.
I think I'd call the hotel to check before booking. You wouldn't want to turn up and then ruin your trip if they make a fuss about you not declaring the kids.
How much more ? Can you call the hotel and ask see if they are okay with that..
Also legally I assume they need to know how many people.
