  • for payo's birthday!

    Who is Payo?

    Will there be cake?

    • +3

Payo is how you pay for kayo

    • I mean $10 is a slice at most places these days, so yes, there will be lots of cake! ๐ŸŽ‚

  • [NSW, VIC, QLD] only or is this Australia wide? I assume it's only available in three states for now

    • Apologies - I've edited the post to mention that we're only available in SYD, MEL, BNE and GC for now. We do have a lot of interested venues wanting to join in other cities though!

      • Thanks. Also an FYI for the next time: please read our Deal title guidelines.

Your original deal title was also misleading as it left out the $25 minimum spend and you also ticked the freebie checkbox (it's not a freebie if it involves the user spending money, even a cent. Please don't tick it if a minimum spend clause applies). Thanks and regards

Just super curious: Do people do this? Eat now, pay later sounds so weird..

    • payo is actually more than just eat now, pay later. We've recently launched payo checkout, which is like the self check-out you see at the supermarket but for hospitality! No more awkward conversations about who paid what because now you can split the bill on the spot!

  • OP - any plan to partner up with more restaurants soon? Esp in Western Sydney area

Hi! Currently, our onboarding flow for venues is not the best. It sometimes takes up to 3 months to get a venue live on our system but we're slowly revamping that. You should be seeing some more venues in your area in the weeks to come!

      • Thanks! Looking forward to it. Hope you still run this kind of promo by then

        • Yes, we're always running events and promos so do keep an eye out :)

  • does PAYO100 work?

    • haha not quite! maybe try it next year for our 2nd birthday? ๐Ÿ˜‰

Buying food on tic is surely a sign that the end is nigh

  • Eventually someone will come up with โžก๏ธ Happy ending now , Pay Later ๐Ÿ˜ˆ๐Ÿ˜ˆ

  • I just signed up and put in the referral code, but itโ€™s treating the $20 referral bonus as used & expired. Did something go wrong?

    • Hmm, do you mind sending through the code you used? I'll have a look for you.

  • Do you put PAYO10 when you sign up? How do you use referral code then? Also is there a credit check and looks like there's surcharge for almost all credit cards?

    • Not 100% sure about the credit card surcharge, all I know is that payo doesn't charge any account / interest fees, just late fees, sorry if I'm not much help with this one. Re referral codes, if you have a mate that has shared their unique code with you, use that code upon sign up and then you can apply PAYO10 to get an additional $10 OFF as well!

  • can you avoid card fees if you pay the full bill at check out and still be able to use the promo codes?

    • for sure! the only fees that I'm aware of are late fees on instalments but we send plenty of notice beforehand so users can avoid this

      • fyi ive always been charged card fees by payo app il will try to pay full amount upfront to see if it can be avoided but i think not.

        • I've only ever paid the full amount up front and have been charged a 1.5% transaction fee each time.

What an awful world we live in.
    BNPL for food.

    Truly predatory and disgusting.

    • How is this different to Afterpay, bundll etc.? Even though it's food, I believe it's not food that's classified as essential (i.e. eating out at a nice restaurant is no different to getting a new pair of shoes paid with Afterpay). I personally only use them to get discounts while still paying in full.

The world has become more consumptive, that's true but don't think that warrants this post a neg IMO.

      • I also mentioned above that payo is NOT only a buy now, pay later service, payo is also trying to solve inefficiencies in the hospo industry.

We've recently launched payo checkout (available at select venues for now), which is a speedy way to pay/split your bill (and add a tip) on the spot! It's win-win for the customers and the business.

To be fair I didn't address it in the comment, but the neg is in regards to the comments that people are unable to use the code because it appears as expired, and that the details and conditions of the deal have changed a couple of times in the post.

Perhaps it is just a series of mistakes, but it looks/sounds dodgy to me.

Also unrelated to the neg is that I misread the comment the OP made about the checkout feature, and misconstrued it as them moving into supermarkets.

While I still have a negative opinion of BNPL and concerns about it moving into food, restaurants or not, that's not why I gave the neg.

I also think in general that this bodes poorly for the future of Australian society.
I mean look at what Menulog is doing to small local restaurants with the daily $5 off $15 codes.
While I love saving $5 as much as the next guy, that comes out of the restaurants pocket, not theirs, and I found myself feeling morally wrong once that was mentioned to me by one of my regular places, so I stopped using the codes.

I imagine it would be the same with this mob and this code. If they're taking the hit instead of the restaurants my point would i.prove towards them, but at the end of the day, it's yet another service that's taking a cut from restaurants and to me that just feels wrong.

In all honesty I have used BNPL products such as zip and afterpay for promotions posted on OzB, but I didn't feel this way because I was purchasing from giants like Amazon and Harvey Norman.

Perhaps that is hypocritical of me, I'm not sure.

    • BNPL for food is easily the most vomit inducing thing I've seen this week…. and I've seen some things.

    • You've never bought food using a credit card before I assume?

      • No? Why would I? Why would I undergo a credit check just to buy food? Why would I support a company that essentially skims off the top of restaurants in exchange for another payment method?

If I'm missing something here let me know.

        • +1

I'm just curious, I hear a lot of complaints and condemnation of BNPL but it is essentially no different than to credit cards. Of which the large majority of Australians have multiple and use daily for all kinds of purchases including essential items such as groceries.

          • @BexForHeadache: One issue is around regulation; here's a Finder summary:

Regulation helps protect you from unfair and unreasonable costs or situations, giving you a clear way to make complaints and get support if something goes wrong.

Overall, buy now pay later has less industry or government regulation than credit cards. The BNPL code of practice only came into effect on 1 March 2021, and it is currently self-regulated.

In comparison, you get the full protection of Australian consumer credit laws when you have a credit card.

The lack of regulation also means it's a lot easier to access BNPL credit than it is to get a credit card (for which a formal credit check is required, along with an assessment of your ability to repay the requested credit limit). This ease makes it easier for some people to get into trouble with their BNPL borrowing / inability to repay their accumulated debts.

            • @quop: Appreciate the information and this makes sense. I agree that change is required, it should be regulated in a similar manner to CC.

  • Credit check?

    • We do credit checks yes and this is to ensure users who decide to apply for our eat now, pay later function can afford to do so

  • trying to register through app and didn't receive the sms verification code, tried couple of times.

    • Sorry to hear! I'll investigate within the team as to why this has been happening lately. Perhaps try again tonight?

Have used Payo a few time, and always paid the bill in full rather than use the instalments/pay later feature (something that just doesn't make sense/appeal to me at all). Each of these payments have had a 1.5% card surcharge when using my linked VISA card.

Some venues offer a % discount off the bill when using Payo, so given the card surcharge I only use Payo when there's a discount (% off and/or $ amount like this offer).

  • Tried to add this to the promo page and it says the promotion code doesnโ€™t exist
