Are Competition Winners Personally Notified?

From time to time I browse the Competitions listings and enter if something takes my fancy.
I’d always assumed I would be contacted if I won anything so never follow up or check back.
A recent comp suggested I keep my eyes peeled on FB and Insta where the winners will be announced.
Does this mean if you don’t take the trouble to check back you miss out?

    Entered quite a few comps, won a few too.

    All of them have been through email. One of the companies posted my name on their Instagram page, and also shot an email through. I have received a phone call or two saying that I've won, though not many times

      Any of those emails end up in your junk folder?

        One or two did, yeah, but most of them just land in my inbox

        Using an email address just for competitions, so it's easy to comb through.

    Read those terms and conditions that you agree to. They always tell you how winners will be advised.
