On sale is this good escooter from Segway Ninebot if you're looking to buy on a budget. The E series are older models that have been superseded by the F series, however they're still good performing escooters and when the E22 is paired with the battery pack it has the same range as the more expensive Segway models.

It has a max speed of 20km/h, typical range of 20km, supports an external battery pack to increase the range to 43km, (here for $143.65 with code), 15° max incline, 300W nominal power, 500W max power, front wheel drive, 9" tyres, electronic/disc brake and suitable for people up to 100kg.

And before anyone says it, yes they're illegal in NSW and yes you can be fined for it. So here's the OzBargain Bingo Chart.

If you're wanting a better scooter and don't mind paying more then I recommend the Segway Ninebot F40A for $759.05 from JB.

      wanting a better scooter

      What's better about it?

To name a few, your stock speed is faster at 25km/h, it has a typical range of 40km without needing an external battery pack, larger 10" tyres, handles a 20° hill incline, has a max payload of 120kg and better water resistance (IPX4 vs IPX5).

    • replace one of the squares with "Legal in ACT"?

I'll find more comments and make it bigger. Probably mention that article people always link.

        • lmao well done

    Bingo !!!

  • If it's illegal in vic then why do people rent them in the streets?

    • -1

Laws for rentals and private ownership are different. Victorian government have allowed an escooter trial for rental companies Neuron and Lime so that's why you're seeing them.

Obviously people still own them privately and are riding them around. I saw plenty up around the South Melbourne market the other day.

I saw plenty up around the South Melbourne market the other day.

Most would have been riding them illegally.

You know the French president ????

The rental ones are not illegal, they are part of a trial but must follow strict laws on riding them. Hundreds of people have been booked because they can't follow the laws.

Just to be clear, no one has to respond to J.V. when he comments. BTW. How are ya J.V.?

When did they let you out of the penalty box ?

Can you get spare parts, can you use it if their app gets ditched?

    • The battery will be dead long before Segway-Ninebot stops producing escooters. Especially with new (and far more expensive) models on the way this year.

Panmi have a couple of parts and there's plenty on AliExpress.

      • So, what's the life-span of these things?

        • With all things that depends on how much you use it and how many recharge cycles. Could get 1000km of no issues. A very rough number for the battery would be 500+ full recharge cycles until it degrades a bit. Really hard to say.
