Non Standard Size Automotive Stereo Help

Hi All. I have a bike that i'm rebuilding, Yamaha xvz1300 2004. The stereo unit that's on the bike is an old casette player. In this rebuild i'm considering upgrading the stereo to something a bit more modern (both in look and functionality).

The problem i'm facing is the stereo is not a standard DIN size format. measurements are:
width 138.6mm
height 51mm
height visible with facia on 30mm
depth 140-150mm

Does anybody here have any suggestions of what to do with needing a stereo that doesn't fit in a standard DIN slot?is there somewhere that sells these stereos of different sizes?

Perhaps he didn't realise some Cruisers have stereos as standard equipment.

  • I don't know about bikes but on cars they make fascia kits that adapt the odd shapes of the dashboard (specific to the car) to a standard DIN or double DIN unit).

I've always got them for my cars from https://aerpro.com/

    • yeah don't think that will be the case for mine….it's too….unique, of a situation.

And usually those fascia kits are designed for sticking a smaller stereo in a larger stereo cavity. My situation is the other way around, the cavity is smaller than a standard automotive stereo, so accordingly need to get a smaller stereo of some sort

      • You can get small round and square mechless stereos designed for SxS/UTVs

        • interesting! this might work, but i've found that their height (both round and square) don't really fit in the cavity

Or just put in a cigarette lighter and ashtray in its place.

Get a piece of acrylic that will go over the original mounting hole. Use something like a fusion ma-55 or similar stereo head unit, they are smaller width wise, which is what you need, and waterproof. Then cut out the appropriate size for the head unit in your acrylic panel.

      fusion

Spoken like a true marine mechanic 👍

  • Some ‘mechless’ units don’t have a lot of depth but have the standard width and height.

There may be some ‘remote’ options with a control panel separate from the actual unit, but I guess there aren’t many places to hide stuff on a bike.

  • Is there a Yamaha big ass road bike online forum?

Surely someone in the world has solved this issue.

  • Anything here of use?

This in particular should be easily installed: boss-audio/60w-x-4-240w-multimedia-player-5-touchscreen

If not, maybe you can get a custom fascia 3D printed; you will need to be very precise with the measurements though.

    • yeah been looking at these things, havent seen any that will fit in the cavity, needs to be smaller
