Cheaper Pressure Washer Recommendation?

Hey there,

Was eyeing out the $129 Aldi 2000w electric pressure washer due to go on sale tomorrow (20th March). But also looking at similar priced models online (with a metal pump for possible longevity).

Will be used mainly for around the house things, motorcycle and car, hopefully do the garage a couple times and random driveway bits.

Planning on moving to Portugal within the year, so a longer warranty or overseas support/warranty would be a bonus, and the ability to take other manufacturer/3rd party accessories would be great.

The only similar priced model I've come across so far that fits my criteria is the Bosch EasyAquatak120($149). Although, apparently made in China. Would skip on the extended warranty if there's decent enough consistent feedback on another product.

Reviews online are a serious hit and miss for a lot of products in this price range. Aquatak120 seems to have the most consistent, albeit maybe not powerful enough for my application?

Other models considered were the Stanley 1800w ($129), Gerni 1400w ($129) or the Karcher K2 Plus ($150). The Stanley and Gerni has a metal pump apparently. The K2 is plastic and is made in China. Also probably the most consistent of poor reviews.

The $109 Ozito has pretty good overall reviews at Bunnings so maybe it'd just be a decent unit to grab and resell for cheap or pass it off when we leave to overseas.

Side note, I have $10 in eBay credit and $52 store credit on Catch but there's only limited reputable models on there. My budget would be to spend roughly $150 out of pocket tops. Any advice or experience with these products would be great! TIA. <3

  • Rent or cheapie from marketplace etc.

    • Thought about that too but assume the pumps will fail the second I pick it up.. πŸ˜…

      • Test before you hand over $

        • Just my luck, the pump pops as soon as I pick it up, without ever turning it on. πŸ˜‚ My mere contact ruins a lot of things. πŸ˜…

I bought the Gerni, and have no complaints for my use for it around the house.

    • How long have you had it?

I think I read somewhere aswell the Gerni's recently had a downgrade to quality aswell. Maybe only the last year or two though. Don't quote me on that though.

I’ve had it for 6 months

Used to clean the deck, driveway, roof, car.. usual stuff

  • They are easy to resell. I’ve resold a few I’ve found on council pickups for $50. People get rid of the electric ones because they are potential death traps.

    • Wait what? πŸ˜…

    • How are they death traps when we have RCD in this day and age?

      • I got zapped from one, and the electricity running to my old shed in a prior rental was probably not wired up to regulations

Oof. That would have been a legal case for the ages, if you had got a little more than a buzz.

    • because they are potential death traps.

I took me a second, but I guess it's from a pump leaking and turning your pressure washer into a single-charge defribulator? πŸ˜…

I guess there's a general warning with these products to pull the plug from the wall when there's an issue?

        • Thanks for the info!

Wait, regarding what I said, will you get shocked from holding the gun? Because I had assumed you were safe, but it's just people reaching to switch it off at the unit, instead of just dropping it and going for the wall plug?

If so, the article didn't mention it specifically.. which would have been a big swing and a miss.

Now I'm sort of worried though..

Yeah I ran and shut the main power switch off, now I’m just scrubbing the house with a broom and soap and hosing it off with a garden sprayer

Managed to find someone selling an older Gerni Classic 105.5 unopened, in the suburb over for half the price of these.. 😍

There you go. It’s not hard.

Either expect longevity and pay a premium or buy cheap and replace.

      • I didn't realise until last night paying double at this price range isn't a premium.. 🀣 I came across like $1,600 electric units..

The Gerni will hopefully have decent longevity as I made sure to get an older model with their original quality. Had to double check the box, dated from 2016! Has Nilfisk label on it, but still made in China.. Just waiting to pick it up, bloke won't reply now.. :'(
