Afterpay Declining My Orders with Full Amount Available

Looking for some advice.

I made an AfterPay account looking to take advantage of the 15% discount and build a new PC. I've made 4 orders thru afterpay (and paid it all off) but now afterpay are denying any orders I'm making thru ebay. Not sure if it's just because of my new account but I'd like to buy the rest of my build lol (my current PC is several generations outdated and well over 7 years old).

Any ideas as to what to do? Afterpay doesn't have a contact number and they haven't responded to my ticket. Honestly, the save for the rest of the parts is only around $150 using Afterpay so if the discount period ends (tmr I believe) I'll just have to pay the full price for those parts (not using Afterpay) …

Cheers.

edit: afterpay does have a contact no. but it's offline on weekends

update (if anyone cares): ended up splitting the rest of my parts between ebay and other retailers (MSY had some "decent" prices on a SSD and a CPU cooler I was after)

The answer, my friend, is blowing in the internet

    Please Note:

Afterpay does not approve 100% of orders. We are committed to ensuring we support responsible spending.

    Also

How long have you been using Afterpay? We are more likely to limit you to small purchases in the first six weeks

Yea I'm only using it for the discount, not a big fan of BNPL

That's likely why they are not letting your orders go through. You are a net negative to them, not a net positive.

@brendanm: Yea the cynic inside me came to that conclusion, they're probably not making any money off me since I'm paying everything off straight away haha.

            • @Nighter8X: Also getting a discount for doing so, though not sure if afterpay pays that, or eBay, or a combo of both.

          • +1

@brendanm: Actually Afterpay charge a fee to the retailer for each purchase, a percentage of the transaction. OP has probably made Afterpay a few net positive dollars with his four purchases.

            • @AustriaBargain: Where does the discount come from though?

              • +1

@brendanm: Either the merchant or Afterpay pay it, or a combination of both.

                • @AustriaBargain: That's my point. OP is getting a 15% discount, if afterpay is paying that, and op is paying no fees, afterpay are losing money servicing OP.

@brendanm: If Afterpay don't want people using these promotions why do they offer them in the first place?

                    • @AustriaBargain: To get suckers in, and get them using their service in the future, with no discounts. Op is using his brain, and milking them for their discount, while having no intention to continue using their stupid service.

                      • @brendanm: You think Afterpay have some kind of algorithm that can detect OPs intention?

                        • @AustriaBargain: It wouldn't be hard. He has made four purchases, all then paid off, all getting 15% discount. It's not rocket surgery to figure out what's going on.

I'll just have to pay the full price

A phrase you would not expect to hear on OzBargain.

  • edit: never mind :D

    "current PC"

    "7 years old"

Wow ok we've learned nothing lol

      Going from intel 4th gen to Ryzen 5000 series and a 1060 (originally had a 760) to a 3080 :)

Been looking to upgrade for a while but I don't game that much anymore and prices have been super high.

    • What? Op is saying that the computer that they are currently using is 7 years old, not that it is a current model.

  • What is your available limit? Maybe you have exceeded that or it is the vendor who is rejecting your method of payment. According to afterpay some vendors have a limit on how much afterpay purchases you have with them. I hope this helps

  • It's not afterpay. It's ebay. They want you to use visa. Happens to me all the time. So over it

    • This is the eBay help desk response I got:

"Thank you for waiting patiently, please allow me to inform you that I have checked your account thoroughly and I see that your account is in perfect standing. There is no error in your checkout sessions and I have checked with all of my back end tools and I couldn't find anything. So it is safe to say that the issue that you are facing is not from eBay's end. If you wish you can try to purchase any item with any other payment method and you will not face the issue."

"I will suggest you to contact after pay with the error and tell them that you contacted eBy and they say there is no error from our end. I can assure you it is not from us"

Can't say I entirely believe them since they are drawing me to "another payment method" and afterpay is practically uncontactable so…

edit: ebay linked me to a Netherlands BNPL service also called Afterpay lmao

      • Yeah trust me it is. I spend thousands on afterpay and only ebay does the refund a few hours after and makes me do credit cards.

  • I'm having the same issue, only signed up with afterpay to buy something this weekend, I could pay it off in full easily but want to take advantage of the discount.

I bought something on Friday but it was the wrong item so the seller cancelled the order, now it won't let me use afterpay for the right item even though they have refunded the first payment.

  • Same, let me know how you go, I still have a CPU and GPU to purchase, but blocked :/

How far away is the next Ebay 15-20% off sale that's not Afterpay?

  • Its probably an overall spending limit over a certain period of time restriction.

  • Same issue here, says I have a $600 payment limit but ended up purchasing eBay gift cards for an item way under that thinking it was had a smaller per transaction limit, ended up being about $55 left to pay and still fails.

Will just have to wait till the next eBay deal and will be deleting my Afterpay account. What a waste of time that was 😂

Check the card that you are paying with. Afterpay won’t let you use a card that expires within 2 months. (Source: I work in retail and come across this at least twice a week)

  • I haven't used Afterpay before. Can I use it with the 15% off or one of their promotions in the future and buy giftcards with that discount?

  • This happened to me again on the weekend and I blasted eBay. The email from afterpay says "we were informed from ebay your order was refunded". It's ebay not afterpay.

I used my wife's ebay and afterpay account and that worked.
