Travel Insurance Recommendations for Bali

Hi all

With travel slowing coming back on the cards and COVID travel insurance required for many destinations. I've never felt the need to book travel insurance to Bali in previous trips. However, since it is a requirement now. It would be good to know what people are using or plan to use.

I've noticed the price ranges for a 2 week period in Bali from $80 (1Cover) to $164 (Qantas travel insurance). Are there any that travel insurance companies you would avoid? Or the best budget travel insurance companies?

Thanks :)

Cheaper is not always better. Check Pds carefully and if it matches what you need OP. For example hospital expenses and what's covered might vary.

Read review sites to get general idea on companies

yeah, check how much medical expenses you cover, u might think million is a lot of spend some time in hospital or even ICU and that rack up millions. some cover provide unlimited.

check what covid cover there is, what cover for delays in flights or cancellations.

cover if u catch covid and have to stay in Bali longer than expected, see what they cover

just remember you are paying 100 odd bucks for insurance, for payouts in excess of a million bucks, guess hard they will try to push back on claims! read that pds with a fine tooth comb

Also check who the issuer & underwriter of the insurance is - there's only a few real players in the market, but they offer their products under different brand names.
eg google: "nib Travel Services (Australia) Pty Limited" and see the number of names that appear.

  • Make sure it covers drunken scooter accidents

  • I've heard things about a company called 'SafetyWing', but I can't say I've ever looked into the company more closely for travel purposes. Usually just go with my CC travel insurance cover.

Southern Cross Travel Insurance is my go to. I've made a few claims with them in the past and they have been seemless.

    • Southern Cross was good to me when I got my ear hurt

  • Thanks! I'll check out Southern Cross Travel Insurance

I'm tempted to see if the ANZ credit card travel insurance works. It seems to cover COVID related medical as long as the eligibility criteria is met (https://www.allianzpartners.com.au/anz-travel-insurance/)

  • Does travel insurance cover terrorist attacks?

    • I doubt suicide bombers take out travel insurance

  • Why have you never felt the need to take out travel insurance for Bali?

    • Entry requirement for bali now

So you didn’t feel the need because it was not before an entry requirement.

I’m asking why you did not think it was a good thing to get before travelling to Bali.
