My go card is down to 1 dollar, can i touch on at varsity lakes and catch a train to the airport and run the card into a huge negative bill (-$30)? I know that you can run it into negatives for normal stations, but does this work for the airtrain?

Tap off at the back
Note: Better to have a BIG crowd(hence school kids) so the driver will not notice you tap off at the back; you have to do it when the bus is at the same stop
Very unethical though
They closed that loophole. Can only touch off at the same stop via the front touch panel.

This does work. Tried and tested from Robina to BNE Airport just recently.
One of the scams I have heard of is if you have to travel quite a few zones to get to work, you can minimise your bill using the 'free after 10 trips' deal.
So catch the bus to work on the first day and then on your lunchbreak, catch a bus 1 stop and then back again (think you have to catch the same bus number but not sure on this).
If you do this Mon and Tues, you are only paying for an offpeak single zone for 4 of the 10 trips and therefore get Thursday and Friday for free on the more expensive trips.
To crunch the numbers, just say you travelled 3 zones to get to work.
In a week this would add up to $4.24 * 10 = $42.40.
Using the above method:
$4.24 * 6 = $25.44 (Full price 3 zone fares)
$3.05 * 4 = $12.20 (Offpeak 1 zone fares)
Total = $37.64
Obviously this works better the more zones you have to travel…
I do this, and I get free trips up to BNE from Robina after a few single zone journeys.
