well that really sucks compared to the previous 10% off offerings …

  • +2

Are these cards susceptible to hacking as previously reported by OzBargainers here?

    • +3

These ARE the cards that were reported.

    • +3

Yes these are the ones that had lots of reports of strange transactions, money missing etc,
They later tried to claim it was 'just a small batch' when I called to get my cards locked but they didn't explain how/why/whether it could happen again when I asked but I think that was some marketing dept damage control bulldust as plenty of people here on Ozbaragin experienced it with a seemly wide range of purchase dates.
They still dont have a customer facing method of activating/de-activating the cards, so you have to call in to get them de activated until you are nearly ready to use them otherwise the money may be vulnerable

  • +1

This just feels downright disrespectful. I’m going to Woolies tomorrow instead. Take that Coles. Pfft what an insult

  • I couldn’t care less going extra to the supermarket for this. I rather buy ShopBack vouchers on special to get instant Cashback or extra gift cards.

  • +4

Year, disgustingly and ridiculously poor offer this time around; it's made worse by needing to be used with FlyBuys and the effects it will have on offers. NGE (not good enough). There is also the slight risk of loss of value through the dodgy use of these cards without needing CVV to protect them from abuse; most of the information on the cards is available, most of the numbers and very few expiry dates. If they expect people to risk their funds or even have to worry about it at all, then the discount needs to be substantial and the provider needs to warrant that they'll re-imburse purchases NOT made by the actual holder — of course they could fix this easily if they absolutely require the use of CVV on every transaction.

  • +4

Who would get the $250 for the 2000 flybuys? This is a bad deal.

    • Sure is, especially with the purchase costs — neither is a good deal this time.

  • +1

Considering the $ value of flybuys, this is a bad deal.

  • +6

Coles promo department needs to hire someone with slightly better mathematics. 1000pts for $250 is never gonna fly here. This is Ozbargain, not Ozspend with stupidity.

  • I bought 2 of this before and both were hacked. Rang their customer support and they can't do anything about it. I lost $200 minus the discount.

    • You got told the wrong thing. You can ask them to dispute the charges as with any master card. I had it on one of my cards and they refunded me into my account within a week.

    • Generally you also have 6mths from statement date to dispute charges with your credit card issuer.

If you paid with credit card, best chance to select you don't recognise the transaction or received items not as described.

      Good luck with that

    • Doing it wrong if your losing $200. Who in their right mind would cop losing $200 like that!

  • -3

    `^ me .
Don't people see the double stacking with the $500 Woolies card into 5 x $100 here ?
People are whinging about $250's being worth peanuts lol .
They really are a joke !

  • waste of time on $250 card, your net saving is $3 or 1.2%…. from $250 value with risk of card being hacked.

the $100 card is ok, with net saving of $5 or 5% discount

I like that there is a limit of 5. It means I might actually be able to buy some before the pros clean out my store.

    • +3

Do you really think Pros only have 1 flybuys account.

      • Any more than 20 and I think it becomes too hard to manage.

They might be able to clean out a couple of stores but they can't go from suburb to suburb cleaning out every store.

  • +4

I'm with the earlier posters in that this deal is really bad compared to what we have been given over the last few years for the same card. The previous deal Coles had with the Visa card was better than this one.

  • +3

    This is not a deal.
    Do better Coles.

  • Does anyone know if the coles system allows you to use coles prepaid MasterCard to buy gift cards? I know staff may not but would like to know if the system allows just like coles gift card

    • +1

Does anyone know if the coles system allows you to use coles prepaid MasterCard to buy gift cards?

It worked for me in October 2021, but that was the last time I attempted doing that.

I know staff may not but would like to know if the system allows just like coles gift card

One slight caveat to the latter part of your statement:

  • I agree with most of the sentiment here.
With these cards do you hit 'Credit' or 'Debit' when shopping at places like Aldi?

    • +1

Credit, because these gift cards operate on the Mastercard network. (That also means you’ll be slugged the 0.5% surcharge at ALDI.)

If you’re interested in EFTPOS gift cards, the current deal at Woolworths may be of interest.

    • Credit unfortunately

  • So if I buy 5 $100 cards in one transaction do I get 10,000 fly bys? And pay a total fee of $25 to activate?

    • +2

      You'll get 10,525 Flybuys points:

      • 10,000 bonus Flybuys points (which is what this deal is advertising), and
      • 525 standard Flybuys points (which is what you can get everyday from Coles and Flybuys when purchasing third-party gift cards).

You don’t need to purchase the five gift cards in one transaction. For example, you can purchase 3x $100 gift cards in one transaction, and you'll receive 6,000 bonus Flybuys points and 315 standard Flybuys points. If you purchase 2x $100 gift cards in a separate transaction later in the promotional period, you’ll receive 4,000 bonus Flybuys points and 210 standard Flybuys points.

And yes, you’ll have to pay a $5 activation fee at the time of purchase for each $100 gift card you purchase.

      • This is no longer valid.. last time I bought apple gift card, they only offer exact points. 1000 + 9000 something like this. I believe this has been fixed.

        • +2

          Nope.

This offer is for 2,000 bonus Flybuys points per gift card. You’ll still get 1x standard Flybuys points for each dollar you spend on third-party gift cards at Coles. I purchased Coles Gift Mastercards and Vanilla Visa gift cards from Coles within the last month, and they earned 1x standard Flybuys point per dollar spent.

Apple gift card deals at Coles are slightly different. Those offers are for 20x Flybuys points per dollar spent, which basically means 1x standard Flybuys and 19x bonus Flybuys points per dollar. Apple gift card deals at Coles have never been advertised as 20x bonus Flybuys points.

  • For whoever buy this, you'd better spend it ASAP. Considering the risk of losing money.. I don't think it's a deal.. you potentially can lose all your money…

    • +2

I will sacrifice 0.5% and buy Aldi gift cards (No Expiry) with it ASAP. And, if they fail, then I'll be a 'Karen' at Coles service desk.

  • +1

Or you could buy it and then use it right away to pay for the rest of your shopping at Coles. I've done that a couple of times in the past at the self serve. Then if money is missing from the gift card you can tell a staff member right away.

  • Do you have to activate it first? Or wait 24 hours before using it?

    • +2

Once you purchase it from Coles, you don’t need to do anything (except wait) before you can use the balance on the gift card.

The balance is generally available for redemption within minutes.

      • +1

        Thank you:)

  • These cards are back again. Luring the unsuspecting customers with the offer of free money only to later have them hacked by brute force and the customer is forced to immediately spend that money prepaying for all kinds of things like internet/council rates/etc. Avoid that allure.

  • +1

I could only get one card as that was all that was left at my local.

    • Did your receipt show the bonus 2000 points? Mine didn’t and I logged in and couldn’t see it either

      • +3

No. It usually gets credited 1-2 days later.

  • +1

Went to two stores and they had none, but the staff said they didn’t even get stock

  • Giving it a pass- 10% off is way better!
