a WD blue 500gb 5400rpm hdd used to be $75 only about 8 years ago. awesome

    • Yup! And propper NVME too, not m.2 sata.

      Tech is amazing sometimes.

      • what's the difference between M.2 and NVMe.. I thought they're the same thing

        • +2

M.2 is the form factor. Some are SATA speed. NVMe, is the speed, and there's multiple different speeds that are classed as NVMe.

One is a type of plug (m.2) and one is how it connects (via PCI-E/NVME, or via SATA)

    • Lol 8 years ago?

  • Can someone order my one?
    I don't have plus :'(

Under 10c per gig! A very good price!

  • OOS

    • Try other links, in the comments above…

damn why cant 500GB SATA SSDs be this cheap

    • put it in a enclosure? or adaptor?

      • Nvme sata enclosures are pricey compared to sata ones

        • I got one this morning for $66 using this code.

Not quite as cheap but I am changing battery on a laptop so wanted one now while I was in there.

Original link is back in stock, as I said it likely would be. There's also shallothead price matching: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/264735755611

    • These are OOS too now.

  • Can anyone recommend a good enclosure for this? Quite confusing. There are cheap ones on eBay that say support UASP protocol, support B key, not support M key PCIE.

Is M key PCIE support what I need?

  • All OOS now, i missed it!

    • Even their other listings are OOS now, so it might be over even for the shallothead ones.

After the NAND swap WD did on these, SN550 are no longer as good as they used to be. Inferior TLC NAND now used (maybe even QLC). Best to treat SN550 as a QLC NVMe SSD for now (yes, when SLC cache is in used, it is still pretty decent).

      • That makes me feel better I missed out.

Any recommendations for the cheapest 500GB nvme you would use for a boot drive?

        • How does the Crucial P1 compare?

seems like my PC build parts are coming up in droves today. 2 years on and im happy with this as my boot drive. $50 you cant go wrong
