Best Place to Sell Used/2nd Hand Children's Books?

I had good experience of selling textbooks on https://studentvip.com.au/ So I wonder if there's any similar sites for non-textbooks, especially children's board books.

I've got a huge amount of children's books and some non-fiction books. Some touch-and-feel books for sensory play, some pull-tags books for fine motor skills. When they tend to put anything into their mouths at a young age, I rather had our own books at the time. I also have some parenting books (i.e. what to expect the first year), which I don't think I'll go through again. Do you have any recommendations for selling them in bulk? I had given away some to mothers in some mother's groups. eBay's too costly for individual. I heard about some scams on Gumtree, it's also very time consuming to post each & every single item.

I'm aware of Facebook marketplace, but I seldom had time to post anything, my profile's inactive. I think the only reason I opened an account was for 2nd hand school uniforms back then.

I noticed there were websites organising selling second-hand clothing or bags. I wonder if there's any bookstores doing that online or as an App.

  • Gumtree. You won't get scammed if you follow the golden OZB rule:

    1. Cash is king (which means pickup only)
  • Facebook Market Place, that's the only reason I use FB these days.

  • Just donate them to the local childcare centre.. or school or doctors surgery or even to the children's hospital..

I don't think it is worth selling them. People give them away all the time. For the amount of money you'd get for them you'd probably be getting like $2/hour for the trouble of photographing, dealing with buyers, meeting with them etc. I mean would you pay more than $1 for an old book that has been chewed by a toddler, had the flaps ripped, etc? That probably cost $5 from kmart? Just join your local Buy Nothing group and give them away in bulk. Might take 5 minutes worth of effort and then they'll be gone from your doorstep. And as a bonus you can get new toys or books for your kid for free from other members as well.

I agree, it’s not worth the time and trouble trying to sell them. I buy a lot of children’s books at Save the Children’s down the road. All books are 99 cents or less. Last week, I got some new Spot lift the flap books for only 50 cents each. When my boys are done with them we donate them on.

Spot on! I don't think it's worth the time & effort, too. I need this wake-up call. =)

Donate them to the local OSHC. I know mine is always desperate for books for after school.

  • About 20 years ago I found eBay was a great place to sell children's books. People would buy anything at high prices if you talked it up in the description. Things may have changed since then though.

    • eBay is good if you have rare books or out of print. I still buy the odd rare out of print one for my kids from there. But you aren't going to make any real money out of it.
