@Bytelover: People take fonts for granted because they come 'free' with microsoft word. These companies in fact pay and invest a lot in fonts. The actual designing of a typeface is a lot of work.They are hand drawn and it's not just 26 characters of the alphabet. It's an expanded alphabet of characters for different languages, ligatures (take a closer look at letters like ff), punctuation marks, different weights and styles like bold and bold italics. These then have to drawn on the computer with mathematical precision and then individually kerned.
The free fonts on your computer you would have paid coin for when you bought it. If you bought stuff off an e-commerce store you would have indirectly paid for the branding. Bit by bit all would amount to way more than $6,007… Even if you're not directly buying it, you are paying for it indirectly.
And at $13 a font, that is a bloody steal than making your own font, even better that it's free.
Don't forget there would have been a tyopgrapher behind even your default Arial or Times New Roman font ;)
@bettina44: Yep, a good mate of mine creates his own fonts and is also a graphic designer, it takes many weeks to create a font for every letter in both upper and lower case, numbers, characters, regular & bold.
The average person has no idea how much work and time is put into creating a new font.
@spaij: These are ridiculously expensive and limited for that reason, like a few hundred a pop and you don't have the variety as you do for the regular alphabet cause it takes so bloody long to hundred of individual characters…
Is also why a lot of Chinese website still use free default fonts and not fancy boutique typefaces.
@SimAus007: I remember creating new 8x8 fonts back in the 80's for my Atari 800XL and that took a while too and that was only ASCII (and actually, even then a subset as I only did the characters I needed for games I wrote…)

For the top type foundries like Adobe, Monotype etc those sorts of prices aren't unheard of - I remember Adobe Font Folio selling for up around $10,000, if not more, back in the 90's or early 2000s.
Linotype are currently selling a single font family (Futura) for $639.

But that said, I agree, I doubt anyone is paying $6k for these fonts
I know of an organisation that recently paid more than that for Gill Sans MT. But then it became apparent that the font isn't accessible so they went back to using Arial.
Yup, companies will pay for it.
Not sure on individuals though. I'll be claiming these though as allot of my digital artwork could use some fancy fonts for the signatured watermark.

Downloaded, not sure how or why I would use them though.
There really isn't much point unless you're doing print work. If you put these into an email or document then the person who opens it will also have to have the font for it to render correctly.
Unless you convert to an image file. Theres that.
Or you can save the document as a PDF. Some document formats like Word also have the option to include a copy of the fonts in the file, so this isn't an issue (just makes a bigger file).

Only links 1,2,3 have a bunch of fonts in them. The other links are one "bonus" font each, and you have to click through an ad each time. Don't bother.

Are these actually useful? When you will publish you are better off with Web fonts.
Only the first 3 downloads of the 12 contain fonts. The rest of the downloads are random photoshop brush strokes and stuff. Anyone have a suggestion for a fontbook now I have a bajillion fonts?

These fonts seem to be mostly junk. It doesn't appear to be a replacement for TypeKit unfortunately.

Cool to have and will download. But if anyone wants decent fonts for free, check out Google Fonts. Tonnes of free, quality fonts and a good search tool.
Yep, Google Fonts is excellent for better quality fonts. The ones in this deal are generally low quality and not very refined (hence why they're selling individually for only a few dollars each).

Does anyone have a funny font story? My wife's PhD was in a font that isn't recognised on Apple so when it got professionally printed it came out all messed up. They actually bound it before even checking. The company admitted it was their error but I had to drive there a few times to get it sorted.
From memory, I believe the font in question was Garamond.
Wouldn't be the first PhD that looked like gobbledygook, even with known font.
I proof read it for the grammar. The contents made no sense to me 🤣
For future if you embed the font into the document that wont happen. You can embed in word and pdf I think.

We (including you) wouldn't pay for these. We only download because of fomo and they are free. These are download and forget for most of us.
it's obviously just an email harvesting exercise for the company, hence the joke…
