What's the best *in-ear* headset *for MS Teams* to replace Voyager 6200 (NOT 'true wireless')

Hi OzBargainers,

My beloved Poly (Plantronics) Voyager 6200 UC has broken on the neckband, just above the right mic/buttons, and the left earpiece & controls/mic no longer work.
I'm supremely pissed off about it, and still looking into getting it fixed/replaced as it should not have broken just from putting on / taking off like it did…but it means I'm now looking for alternatives if this one doesn't get fixed/replaced.

MUST HAVE:
- in ear (over-ear headphones/headsets make my ears too warm and end up hurting because of glasses frames)
- works consistently with MS Teams (Teams certified?)
- great audio sound quality (music / audio streaming, Teams calls)
- great mic sound quality (prefer good noise cancelling mic/s, Teams and phone calls)
- long battery life - I use them through the whole day for noise-cancelling/music to help my ADHD-brain focus, so needs to last a full day

SHOULD HAVE:
- simultaneous dual-bluetooth (or bluetooth + USB) so I can have it connected to my mobile (iPhone) and work laptop (Dell XPS / Windows)
- charge via USB-C
- active noise-cancelling

SHOULD NOT:
- can't have a flimsy / fragile design
- prefer to avoid 'true' wireless at this stage, but could be persuaded, I just feel like I'd either lose one, forget to charge one, or they'd fall out of my ears or something.
- prefer it's cheaper than the $300+ the Voyager headset set me back, I'd hoped that price would mean that it'd last but now I'm even more skeptical

::EDIT::
Looks like a few options available:
[SfB/Teams Certified]
- Jabra Evolve 65E or 75E - Dual(?)Bluetooth/USB-C & Teams Certified $200-300
- A new Voyager 6200 UC - Dual Bluetooth+USB-C & Teams Certified ~$280-330

[True Wireless options]
- Sony WF1000XM3 (TW) ~$180-200
- Apple Airpods Gen3 (TW) $279
- Apple Airpods Pro (TW) $399

  • AirPods Pro. We've all been using them for years on MS Teams. They're perfect.

You have an iPhone… No brainer. Works perfect on Dell Latitude 7300 too.

    • Apple's page says: "Up to 4.5 hours of listening time with a single charge" wtf that's not even a full work day!?

I should probably update OP to include long battery life.

      • Also I'm rather not a fan of true wireless buds at this point, and especially not a fan of the horrid white iPod earbud look of the AirPods

      • The charging case gives you more than 24 hours of use.

5 mins charging while you grab coffee gives you an hour of talk time.

Use all morning, lunch break stick in case, charge keeps you going rest of the day.

        • That's.. not too bad then I suppose. Still true wireless separate earbuds, I don't trust myself (or my cats / toddler) not to lose one :P

          • +1

@nb88: You'll get used to it super quick and question what took you so long to jump in. Seamless integration with iPhone and ANC audio quality is fantastic. :)

Double check but I believe Apple direct do 14 day no hassle returns. So try it out and if you really really don't like 'em, send them back.

            • @Hybroid: Apple still do this with returns :) Link

The mics on the AirPod Pros are excellent and I find them very comfortable for long periods of wear…

And re losing them, they really try and help you not lose them! Here’s a few ways

  • I wear glasses and use a Sony XM3. I know you said no over-ear but I find them comfortable to wear for hours. They should be cheap to pick up as the XM4 has been out for quite a while.

    • I'll see if there's somewhere I can try one on for a while (with some sanitising wipes at the ready)

    • +2

I use the XM2's and (personally) think the audio mic quality for voice calls is pretty terrible.

For audio/music they work great, but i often get issues from the other end complaining about audio/mic quality.

are the XM3 or 4's much better?

      • +1

My experience is anything i've used without a boom will have poor microphone and people complaining.

      • Actually I have had complaints with the XM3 too - I thought it was just my hair covering the mic sometimes. Maybe the XMs aren't the greatest for voice calls. I find the audio, noise cancelling, and cup gestures excellent though.

          same
i keep looking at reviews on updated ones like the XM4's hoping to see some revelation about improved phone call quality but have yet to see it as i would upgrade straight away just for that.

      • I have the XM3 and have gotten complaints on call quality. XM4 is supposed to be better, but if you are going for call quality, look for something other than Sony.
I have switched to Samsung Galaxy Buds Plus. TWS are definitely not as comfortable as over-the-ear headsets, so I use TWS for calls and my XM3 for music and ANC.

        • so I use TWS for calls and my XM3 for music and ANC.

Just don't understand how the bud style can get decent call quality, like samsung and apple, but NC over ear headphones seem not to :/

  • For the most part, any headset using bluetooth is going to have similar audio quality on calls, as the main limitation isn't the quality of the hardware, it's the low-quality bluetooth headset profile they have to use to connect to your device.

This isn't an issue when you're not using the microphone as you'll get full-quality audio from the headphone profile, but as soon as you start a call, the audio quality degrades a lot as it switches to the headset profile.

To get over that ceiling you have to either use a wired microphone, seperate wireless microphone, or a headset with a dongle using its own dedicated connection (like a wireless gaming headset)

    • Yeah this is very true, I had been happily using the USB dongle before it was lost into an AC vent. Frustrating because I know it's still there but I can't get to it!
