Pirelli Dragon Sport - Any Thoughts on This Tyre?

Does anyone have any experience rocking Pirelli Dragon Sports? Any complaints? Better/worse than the competition? Thinking about putting them on my BF Falcon.

Size 235/45R17

Thank you in advance.

I'd go Michelin PS4 in that size. Looks to be about $185 fitted from my 30 second search; a bargain for that tyre. https://www.tyresales.com.au/buy/tyre/michelin/pilot_sport_4…

  • thoughts; they don't squeal too much when pushed/spun

  • Go 225/50r17

You don't need tyres with such little sidewall. You'll get a 7.5mm ride height increase and save a little fuel as well, due to less rolling resistance. It's a legal size change in + diameter, of less than 3% (2.4% specifically, 15mm overall). And go a 98, W or Y speed rated, for various reasons I won't get into here.

    Just my opinion.

    • Agree with W or Y rated tyre, even if you never get near those rated speeds, but I'm struggling to understand how reducing the contact patch for a heavy, torquey, RWD car is a good idea? If I wanted a higher sidewall I'd be expanding the width with the same profile (eg 245/45) rather than reducing the width.

      • Even 215 or 205 is completely fine. I have diesel ford saloon that makes more torque than a falcon, which uses 205's and they're more than adequate. (Also my vehicle is larger than a falcon).

Other models of falcon with the same size engine come with 215's.

  • Personally not a fan.

    • That’s ok, but for what reasons? The aspects you don’t like might be an acceptable compromise for me for benefits in other aspects.

      • Had them on a diesel X5. Felt 'sloppy' with weak side walls, also only lasted 10k km. Again, just my thoughts.

  • Had Michelin PS4 before I swapped them for these. Bad move. PS4 had move grip and better feel. Road noise was about the same. Continental SportContact 5 were also better.
