Good Spot for Sunset Wedding on an Adelaide Beach?

Hi,

My fiance and I are planning a small wedding on a beach in Adelaide in end of April this year. Im looking for suggestions of which beach would be the best for a quiet sunset wedding?
Also suggestions of where to take 18 people for a quiet oceanfront dinner after? There will be 6 grandchildren
Also we are trying to keep it simple rather then fancy. This is a second wedding for both of us.
We need a good photographer for about 1.5 hours as well.
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

I would start with contacting a couple of celebrants local to the area and asking them for suggestions, because they are likely to help out and be able to recommend what people have done in the past

Adelaide Sailing Club could be another decent option for a quiet beach. Food isn't amazing though.

Grange Beach and Grange Jetty Cafe

Not strictly Adelaide, but near enough.
Willunga beach and Star of Greece afterwards?
Normanville Beach is really nice, the cafe on the foreshore is pretty decent.
Wirrina Cove could be another option, but no beachside dining.

      • Will look at Grange cafe thanks

  • Keep in mind that it might be cold on the beach as well.

Best of luck for the wedding.

    • Especially in Late April!

    • Thanks 🤗

  • Henley Beach is next to Glenelg but far less busy.

    • Food is amazing and beach is relatively quiet.
      This would be my pick.

I've been involved with professional photography at a number of Adelaide weddings some years ago. I don't remember any weddings on the beach but many couples did go to the beach for photos between the ceremony and the reception.

    Some things to consider:

    • If you do the wedding literally on the beach at end of April keep in mind weather: could be cold, could rain, could be windy. Would you be willing to wear a jacket during ceremony? Would you bring a gazebo? Would you have a "plan B"?

    • You could have the ceremony at a nearby venue and do photos at the beach (this is very common). Return to the same venue for the dinner?

    • Glenelg is a popular location, but obviously it will be one of the busiest spots. Think about the places that you have visited before and enjoyed.

    • Don't be afraid to pick a place close to your house. It can really reduce stress if someone has to pick up something forgotten like rings or vows or whatever.

    • A jetty is a good prop for photos. If that's important to you, pick a place with a jetty. Also it's more likely to be a built-up area with a few venue options.

    • Seek advice from any professionals involved (celebrant, photographer, etc) they will know. When you are 'shopping around' for these people you can also get a range of opinions. Don't intentionally waste their time but don't be shy about picking their brains, it's all part of the business.

DM me if you want a photographer recommendation.

    • I would appreciate a few recommendations if you have them… we would like a good photographer for about 1.5 hours.

      • Oh, I didn't realise DM's are disabled by default on OzB… anyway… I highly recommend Karalee Angelsmith at https://angelsmithphotography.com/ Check out the gallery.

        • Thanks i will look her up😊

          • @Flygirl2222: She looks like a great photographer but she costs more than we want to spend. We are just looking for someone to be there for the 15 min ceremony and take photos probably an hour tops.😊

Be mindful you may need Council consent. When you do decide, contact the local council and make sure there's no permits required

    • Hi and thanks to everyone who has responded! I will check out your ideas.

I do have a celebrant. And ive checked with the council, its permissible but i can't reserve a particular spot.

We are from Victoria and aren't too knowledgeable about the area. It will be a short ceremony and we will have about 15 people including 6 grandkids. I am hoping it won't be too cold to be on the beach as we have our hearts set on being barefoot. I guess i will need to wear a coat if it's really cold. We are looking for a back up alternative as well.

We are looking for an affordable but good photographer. We don't want an album but some photos would be nice.
We will need to get a cake or desserts that would suit vegans and gluten allergies. Can you recommend a good bakery?
Thanks so much again for your insights everyone. This is my first time writing in a forum. 🤗Jeanne

      • Think about getting The Advertiser out for the photos. Trade off is obviously they own them and they can publish them etc. But they will archive them forever and their fees are reasonable. You can buy as many or as little as you like.

        • Will try them thanks!

        • I think they are looking for local people…

      • Wanting a backup option makes something like Adelaide Sailing Club more suitable.
They've got their own (semi-private) beach and the club itself sits atop the Sand dunes with a private room with a fantastic glass wall overlooking the beach.
Hortas also has this to a lesser extent and serves much better food, but would be harder (more expensive) to hire out.

  • Thanks i will ring them today.

  • I rang them and they are sending me a menu. Thanks so much for the suggestion. It might be perfect because we are staying in that area . Sadly they arte already having a wedding, so i can only book dinner, but it just might work!

  • How did the wedding go?
