Saw the Messermeister Four Seasons deal and watched the suggested video review.

The Messermeister Four Seasons was compared with the Victorinox Fibrox. The Messermeister came out more highly recommended, but the Victorinox Fibrox still seems like a good option. Disclosure: I ended up buying the Messermeister. Others may prefer this option.

Not sure if the linked deal is the exact same knife, but looks similar and is currently at an all-time low on CCC.

  • I have a few Fibrox knives, decent upgrade from the “kiwi” knives which were awesome but seemed to dull pretty fast. I wash all my knives in the dishwasher and they have held up well

I ended up getting a Messermeister also just for kicks (Messermeister 72442 Four Seasons Santoku Knife, 18cm, Black $28 as it is much cheaper than the comparable Fibrox somehow. https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B002KKC2NQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_g…)

    • I'm a big fan of the Kiwi knives. Their price can't be beaten, and although their metals are softer (hence cheaper) and dull quickly, it also means they're quicker to sharpen.

Totally inappropriate for say - a restaurant, but in the home being used a few times a week, they're great.

I bought the messermeister the other day to replace my mercer culinary and its a great knife. Came very sharp. How long it stays sharp I'm yet to find out. I paid 21 bucks so I'm more than happy as I needed a 6 inch knife to replace my 8 inch which is too big for my hands. Finally…smaller IS better.

The four seasons have pretty chonky blades (i.e more heft) compared to the fibrox

So I'd really say it's a weight preference thing more than which is better

  • Have started doing a lot of proper cooking at home and am looking for a good general purpose knife.
Is this it or are there even better options?
Have experimented with grips and have found my self most happy with the 'blade grip' or 'pinch grip'.
Looking a making the purchase for long term.
Happy to drop up to AUD$100, but want as much bang for buck as i can get regardless of price.
Not looking for cheap, looking for good value.

The 5.4503.25 carving/slicing knife is available for $29. Cheapest I've seen it. Have one of these at work, they're pretty good. Light and comfortable to use.
