App That Lets Me Wager Money with Friends over Fitness Goals

I recently got a Garmin fitness watch to track runs, rides, steps etc. Me and my friend both want to get fit and keep each other accountable. It would be fun to be able to put up a small amount of money, say $10 a week and whoever runs more km, has more steps etc wins the pot. Are there any apps that do this?

  • Hi,
The Qantas Wellbeing App allows you to compete with your friends.

Yes that app is what gave me the idea actually, I just started using it a fortnight ago, but I thought it would be more fun to put a few $ on the line than a tiny amount of Qantas points.

  • Use Strava, make a club, join that - it won't do the pay thing for you but will track every week (Monday to Sunday) with whatever metrics you are tracking. If you make it more than one sport though, it'll just do it as "activity minutes" which is pretty easy to cheat. Honestly i think whatever you do will be pretty easy to cheat at. E.g. ride a bike and upload it as a run, drive a car and log it as a bike ride, etc

    • You're right regardless of our system it will definitely be easy to cheat, but we trust each other and the wager would only be small, just to make it fun, not really worth cheating a mate to win $10.

  • I use the StepBet app which has public games where you play in a pool of ~1000 people, who must meet a step goal each week for 6 weeks. If you achieve every goal for 6 weeks, you and the other winners split the cash from those that didn't. I think they have private games but haven't ever used those.
