I understand it's illegal to park within 3 meters of POST letter box by NSW laws. However, I saw in one street that there is a 1P parking sign right next to the better box picture here. In case, which should prevail? parking or no parking?

I just added a photo link in my post. Take a look?
Well, that's a bit different to your original description. There is a sign where you can and can't park. There is literally a mail zone parking restriction sign.
If you are parking where you are parking in the photo, you should be fine, as there is a start and an end to the parking and no perking zones.
I wouldn’t park there
Parking ticket would be thrown out of court if there is a sign there saying you are allowed to park.
My wife parked in a signed parking area but got booked as the spot was close to double lines. Doubles lines won. Parking signs do not always mean it's ok
@timesarehardd: Entrapment
probably not legally parked within the parking area (eg. outside the lines), otherwise the magistrate would have thrown it out.
There's permitted loading zone to the right of the post box on Liverpool St in CBD because there's a dedicated Aus Post spot to the left of it. Same in your situation?
it's different. I just uploaded a picture link in my post. Took a look?
iCloud link doesn't load.
replaced it with a google drive one
@jacobpei: Oh yea, same thing then. There's a dedicated mail zone so you're perfectly fine to park in the green signed area.
The Letterbox (No Stopping) should prevail, but it's hard to uphold an infringement in that case. If the parking looks like a parking spot, eg, 1P and delineated space, then it's unlikely that a car will be infringed even if parking in front of the post box, although illegal to do so.
If you were infringed, then the whole notion '.. if it looks like X, and feels like X… then it is likely X…' goes a long way and Council's tend to be conservative when it comes to interpretation of rules (and let them go) vs clear black and white situations.
There are many rules which cross over each other. As example, a 1P which applies across a driveway doesn't mean that you can park in front of the driveway, as there are rules that prevent that from occurring.
Doesn’t matter. The postie just parks on the footpath anyway.
IMO signs overrule the generic rules. Park according to signage. I say this because too many people have no idea on the actual rules and rely on physical signage. Then again, lots of people don’t see signs either.
For those who don't wish to click the link, the answer is you can park there.
(1) A driver must not stop on a road within 3 metres of a public postbox, unless the driver—
(b) stops at a place on a length of road, or in an area, to which a parking control sign applies and the driver is permitted to stop at that place under these Rules. Finally someone thought the same…..
From the picture, parking either side of the signs where the green arrows are pointing would be fine. Just don't park in between the signs in the mail zone where the red arrows point.
you can park up to the sign. No part of the car should be past the sign post
What did the postman (in the background) say when you asked him?
Also, that picture you took was illegal. The engine was running and you were in reverse gear while using your phone. That's a bigger penalty than the potential parking ticket.
Engine running is fine. It does look like it was in reverse gear instead of park though.
Almost certain (but not 100%) in Vic that the engine must be off to handle a phone.
Edit: looks like it's just safely parked but CBF researching further
Here's another photo (streetview)
Bellevue street, Thornleigh Marketplace, Sydney.
Plenty of room for parking and for the postie to collect.
Don't see why parking should be a problemhow did you know exactly it was that place? been there before?
Delivered a lot of pizza round there……..
This is a case of an incompetent and greedy council squeezing in an extra timed parking space contrary to the laws governing postboxes in an attempt to fine overstayers. Pure greed.
I wouldn’t park there, because you would see on the post box that it will probably have the “no parking” sign on the post box itself. Is it the red one or the green drop box?
