Silly question, but why are laptops cheaper than desktops?
i7-11800H
16GB RAM
RTX 3050 Ti
512GB SSDThese specs in a desktop are around 2k (was recently looking for a mate) … I'm thinking i might be better off using a laptop as a desktop
Not a silly question.
There is an issue with manufacturers using the same names for desktop and laptop GPUs, when the performance is significantly different. Taking the 3070 card as an example, discussed in the video below, the desktop 3070 performs on average 35% faster than the laptop equivalent of the same name (at 1080p, games). That kind of difference in performance is what you'd see between classes of GPUs, not what you'd normally expect within the same model / model name.
I'm not sure if it's exactly the same chipset used, but the lower power consumption and thermal throttling required for the laptop means lower performance overall.
This is not to say that the laptop would not be a good computer for you. Depends on your requirements. But you wouldn't be getting desktop performances in a laptop form factor/price. And you wouldn't be the first who thought they were equivalent either. I did too! Until I built my own PC.

can't get the price in the title ($1503.20) for the first laptop in the list. Says discount automatically applies at checkout but does not work for me. Am I missing something ? thanks
I can't get it at that price either. I tried different laptops and I think they mixed up $ and %… e.g. it's subtracting $10 instead of 10%, $20 instead of 20%, etc.
Not working for me either
Not working for me either
Looks like they fixed the issue
Killer price for the G14 with Ryzen 9, RTX 3060 and QHD display. I guess clearing out older stock for the new 2022 model.
Doesn’t look like it’s working though. Only $15 off at checkoutYeah I’m getting only $15 off instead of 15%
Picked up a tuf w/rtx 2060 for $500 off marketplace, surprised it still performs much better than a 3050 ti
Similar deal on Amazon but with Ryzen and non-ti 3050:
