22538

With Bunnings’ national battery recycling program, people can safely recycle their used batteries & give them a new lease on life.

Our battery recycling units are designed to accept household single use and rechargeable batteries, such as:

  • AA, AAA, C, D, 9V, 6V
  • Power tool batteries
  • Button cell batteries
  • Other handheld sized batteries that fit into the collection unit slot

We cannot accept mobile phone batteries, laptop or TV batteries, lead acid batteries, car batteries, products with embedded batteries or other batteries that do not fit into the battery collection unit slot. For safety reasons, we also cannot accept damaged, leaking, or dismantled batteries.

  • I'll take 2! Oh wait…

I think it's a deal. you can give batteries for free and not screw the environment

alternative is send them to landfill for free and screw the environment

screwed environment is much more expensive to deal with in the long run, so deal

    • Nobody's saying it isn't a good thing or a worthwhile service. That doesn't make it a "deal/bargain".

I may as well post a listing saying "Free books to borrow, at your local library" which is the same sort of thing.

It is for me, so argument invalid

People get into the habit of just binning batteries at home.
    Even as a reminder it’s a good post imo…

  • -5

Throwing mine in the bin has not killed a bin chicken at the tip yet

  • Finally. I usually go to aldi but their bins are always full or not out.
Always thought it was stupid somewhere like Bunnings didn't take batteries.

    Thanks for the heads up.

  • just keeping farming your upvotes whatever man.

    not.a.deal

You can recycle batteries at nearly every post office or council office. No deal!

  • +1

If Bunnings or any of these retailers cared this much about landfill and the environment why not just stop selling disposable batteries all together so it wouldn't contribute to the issue they are trying to fix?

  • Let me know when they take car batteries

  • This will save our family hundreds this year!

  • That ratio though…

Free? I can already recycle the for free in the ocean.

  • Does anyone know how and where can I dispose phone and motorcycle batteries ?

People are pretty salty about deals hey… I think this is good information, thank you. I didn't realised bunnings took batteries and it's convenient for me

    • Same, thanks OP

  • How is this a deal?

  • Where to recycle led light globes?

  • +3

OP, idea for your next deal. Free kerbsides collections each year. Maybe make each council a separate post to further maximise your upvote farming

    • +2

      OP, your next deal, recycle
      - oil at SCA;
      - car tyres for only $5;
      - coffee cups at 7 eleven.

      • Legend

        • Maybe also a seperate deal on food courts in shopping centres that have bins with a hole that seperates waste from items that can be recycled?

Don't give deal upvote farmers ideas!

          • +1

            @Lucille Bluth:

Maybe also a separate deal on food courts in shopping centres

And don't forget EVERY single household with a council recycling bin!!!

Amazing there is still something left to recycle.

To suggest OP is doing this for positive votes is ridiculous. What do they have to gain from it?

      • Virtual internet points and cred. It seems ridiculous to you and me because it is but to some it's everything.

        • cough influencers cough

What do you have to gain from privately messaging abusive messages and then blocking the person from replying?

Is there some kind of reward for posting anything on OzBargain? Why this rush of nothingness?

    • Is there some kind of reward for posting anything on OzBargain?

      For the street cred.

  • How is this a ‘bargain’.

  • Have never down voted anything, but I don't think this should be posted as a deal or even a freebie.

  • I am about to post a deal "Free mobile phone/printer cartridge recycling at various drop-off centres" please up-vote and hopefully it will make it to the front page!

Oh damn someone beat me to it https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/686436 (also made it to the front page..)

  • Only a deal if you can scavenge for mistakenly binned eneloops.

  • What can be done with damaged/leaking batteries?

    • You can hand it in to these recyclers and they do just that. Recycle them.

  • You can recycle batteries at aldi too. Lmao

  • I'm all for these recycling programs but this is OzBulletin board

  • OzAnnoucments

It's free at my kids school, too.

  • looking for dealzzz

  • What I reaaaaaally really would like to know is how and how much recycling is done from those batteries.

    For the down voters:
It is estimated that 18,6001 tonnes of batteries are discarded to landfill in Australia annually. All batteries are hazardous to some degree and it is important Australia can safely and responsibly dispose of batteries.

It’s a definite problem. Whilst not a bargain, there’s no harm in being reminded about recycling. Glad that it’s triggered a dialogue & clarified ‘where to recycle what’ for a majority. We are fortunate to have a lot of avenues to recycle, & reminding this infrastructure exists is beneficial. Besides, upvotes cudnt be encashed LTIC

  • I must have been living under a rock, because I didn't know that all of the places in the comments take batteries.
    Thanks OP for the alert!

  • Most of the time the bin is over flowing any way.

  • I find it amusing that most of the people negatively voting don't contribute to the website by submtting deals, yet are usually the first to ask: "where's the deal?"

  • Where's the value here? 10c for an aluminium can, nothing for a battery? Doesn't seem like a deal to me.

  • Can us loser teenagers chuck in our vapes???

  • Belongs in the forums - plus its about time Bunnings copied Officeworks and Aldi who have been doing this for years -Officeworks even takes bulbs! (and local councils)

  • Bunnings Chatswood refused to take my used AA/AAA cells. "We don't do that"

  • We also collect used batteries and metals in our skip bins. With the aim to recycle what we can when it arrives in our yard. https://www.rubbish.com.au/scrap-metal-skip-bin-hire/
