Hey guys, I purchased an EVGA PSU from an authorized reseller 3 weeks ago and notice that there's a coil whine. One of the staff told me that it's non-warrantable. Is it true? I've also contacted EVGA directly and awaiting their reply.
Warranty for PSU with Coil Whine
Comments
I've tried other PSUs and they're not as loud as this one. Extremely annoying given my room is pretty quiet.
Unfortunately coil whine isn't a defect unless it's above the stated operating noise levels. Retailer probably won't do anything but EVGA might, they've been pretty good at doing right for their customers.
Cool. I’ll wait for EVGA’s response then.
Seasonic also does not warranty for coil whine. I guess you are out of luck.
Gerry from hardly normal will have have his own policy.
Next time buy something that comes with full specs!i had a graphics card that had coin whining while playing games, so annoying!
had to pay 20% restocking fee to change for another unit
In my experience, it's almost impossible to get an RMA for coil whine. Most manufacturers and retailers point out it's not a fault and leave it at that. If the retailer did a warranty assessment on it and the customer insisted it be sent away to be double checked, the distributor would say the same thing.
It sucks, I've spent a handful of dosh on silent running components, only for my videocard to be a whiney baby and ruin the whole thing. But such is life.

Sony replaces PS5s that have complaints of coil whine.
EVGA rep on their forums confirms coil whine is covered under warranty: https://forums.evga.com/Is-Coil-Whine-covered-Under-Warranty…
It varies but not impossible.
That is awesome of EVGA!
That’s why I prefer Amazon given their return policy is more flexible than other retailers. But the PSU I wanted to buy was OOS on Amz at that time.
In 2018, I did manage to RMA an Antec HCG for coil whine. It was replaced with a completely new unit by IJK eventually, so I guess it depends on the manufacturer.
Coil whine is not technically a defect and all electrical devices have them to some degree. However, most companies will replace the unit for you if you complain it's excessively loud.
