    Education store, no strap…

Victorian teachers haven't been able to use the strap since 2005

Spare the rod and spoil the child… with a Samsung Galaxy Watch 4! Will pair beautifully with my five year old’s S22 Ultra

  • What am I missing here? A watch without a strap is useless.

Most people bin the standard strap as soon as they buy it and fit an aftermarket one.

      • +14

Lol are you sure most people do that. I'm sure I'm not the minority when it comes to keeping factory strap. The samsung galaxy watch 3 strap is actually really good and still use it till now

        • So when I bought my Galaxy Watch 4 Classic, i also bought an after market strap/band immediately. This was because I watched many reviews and they all complained about how the band wouldn't sit flush on your wrist but instead, lift up from your wrist.

I've got a small wrist so that definitely happened to me, so i'm very glad I got an after market band. Of course, everyone is different, but i would say this is a good deal for the watch and you can easily purchase a cheap band all over ebay and amazon. Just make sure you get the right size 20mm.

@prisofreedom: I'm not disagreeing that there is a market for aftermarket straps.
My comment was more along the lines that people are still happy with factory strap and that they don't bin it as the comment mentioned.
I would say its less common for people to buy an aftermarket strap than for people to be happy with original, as most people just want the device.

            • @maverickjohn: Totally agree with you. I do feel that with the Galaxy Watch 4, there was quite a bit of displeasure with the OEM straps that people just generally felt a need to change it when it came.

As mentioned, YMMV but I totally ditched the OEM strap when it came and went straight to an after-market strap, hopefully this helps someone make that purchasing decision about this deal. :)

        • For most watches I chuck on a butterfly clasp. Makes life easier for my lazy ass.

        • Yeah, my original Galaxy watch I stuck with the factory band for 2 years before it's inability to keep the excess band in the loops made me buy an aftermarket one, happier now.

        • i bought an aftermarket strap for my Galaxy S3 Frontier, for my Watch 2 and Watch 4….The stock band is pretty bad for my wrist anyway. for some reason, the samsung slot is either skin-pinching tight or a tad loose. very strange.

          • @ExtraSalt: Can I ask whether you think the Watch 4 is a worthy upgrade over the S3 Frontier at this price? Main difference I can tell is Wear OS over Tizen OS and a few improvements in specs, but on the fence about this deal as I just didn't find the Frontier and its apps very useful.

            • @pe arl: I came from exactly that to the Galaxy Watch 4. It's a very worthwhile upgrade. I am loving that I can use my GooglePay on my watch, I also have apps on my phone that now also appear on the watch [because they never used to have a Tizen equivalent… i.e. Google Keep for notes, Outlook, etc.]

I did really want Google Assistant on my watch too which was promised at Launch but it's been months and Samsung/Google are still saying it's Coming Soon.

But, to summarize, i am very glad I upgraded from quite a dated watch.

              • @prisofreedom: Thank you!!

              • @prisofreedom: You got keep to work? I bought at xmas, keep would NEVER sync with my notes. Reset, cleared, multiple times but it would never work. Seems others happen the same way.

            • @pe arl: Hey Nate, sorry i didn’t see this comment. It’s a great upgrade but the OS isn’t as big of a jump as you’d think. If you can hold tight, I’d wait for the next gen. Still waiting for GA to enter the frame lol.

      • So I'm not missing anything then. Either the stock strap sucks on an expensive watch that you need to buy an aftermarket one OR this is just yet another example of companies treating their clown customer base as customers clowns.

  • in pikey accent "why the Fook do I want a watch that's got no fookin strap!?"

First samsung doesn't supply charges with its phones now it supplies watches without straps. What's next? TV'S without remotes?

    • -2

That won't be long. Next generation will find a remote control too much effort.

      • Ok boomer

Your showing your age with that comment.

@tonka: Do only boomers call each other 'boomer' these days?

            • @andresampras: No idea, all I know is it's the trendy catch cry from 3 years ago and boring as f.

              • @tonka: Next you'll be telling me 'radical' and 'gnarly' are old school.

                That's so whack dude.

Yea! Who wants options! I want to pay more for less options!!!

    • TV without a remote makes sense when it can be controlled via mobile app, so yeah, definitely possible. Add more ways to (reliably) control the TV - with voice, gestures - and the remote may become redundant pretty soon.

      • +3

That sounds awful. Imagine five people with remotes on their phones.

      • Sadly not for LG. On the odd chance you do get a connection, its a laggy hell of a mess

      • -3

Our TV remote gets used once in a blue moon.

Apple TV remote is used daily though.

      • +3

        Mobile apps are terrible.
A physical remote you can change channels, choose different shows, volume etc without even looking at the remote. Apps you need to look at a screen to be able to use.

  • Will this work with any recent android phone? I need the ECG/heart stuff the most.

    • I have this watch paired to my Oppo phone, everything works except for some of the health functions unfortunately, like ECG and blood pressure (heart rate and SP02 work though). Also the Telstra eSim doesn't work with the Oppo but I think that's a Telstra thing (it isn't supported). Some of the watch faces that are on the Samsung store for this watch come up as "incompatible with phone". You really need a Samsung phone to get the full benefit of the watch but most functions work fine with my Oppo.

  • This can play music when running yeah?

    • yep

  • Very conveniently, Strapify have 30% off their straps now. Link here.

    All Samsung Watch 4 straps.

My biggest beef with this is the battery durability. Its less than a day.

    • I get 2 days from mine, but I guess that depends on usage patterns.

But I agree generally with you as I got 3 days from my old Galaxy Watch S2 classic.

      • Did you set yours to raised wrist to turn on the display or do you have to double-tap on the screen to activate the display?

        • Raise wrist to turn on display.

    • Yep - battery life on this is garbage. Avoid unless you have no issues charging it… every… single… day.

  • If you're after a "notification device", then this watch is ok. Have a look at the issues with Samsung Watch 4

    https://eu.community.samsung.com/t5/wearables/galaxy-watch-4…

I had a Samsung Galaxy Watch 2 which couldn't track heart rate properly. After much trouble (multiple replacements and software updates that did absolutely nothing) I ended up demanding a refund from Samsung. Eventually, I got before fund, but not before multiple escalations to their management and a threat of Consumer Affairs case and VCAT.

Samsung then continued to have issues with Watch 3 and now 4. If you're after a fitness device, get a FitBit.
After disastrous experience with Samsung Watch, I had FitBit Charge 3, then 4, Versa 2 and now Sense. They're all fantastic devices that will track all aspects of your fitness accurately. When on special, FitBit Sense can be bought for around $300, with a strap.

    • your observation is correct, the Samsung Watch isnt sold as a 'fitness' watch. it's an everyday watch with health features.

      • Health features are just a gimmick. Anyone looking to get an "everyday watch" may as well get a far cheaper Xiaomi Band: better health monitoring + all the notifications from much more expensive Samsung watch. I guess it's called a watch for a reason 😉

        • Lol you are just echoing what I said. I was saying your original observation is correct but it was never designed to be a fitness watch. It’s a smartwatch with health feature's. I quite enjoyed the Galaxy Watch 4 myself. Looks smart and great support and warranty.

    • I had a fit bit was absolute garbage never had a problem with all my Samsung watches I’ve had .
If you want fitness watch Garmin would probably be the better option .

For an independent, objective and scientific review of most fitness devices, have a look at this legendary YouTube channel.
Samsung watch 4 is not recommended:
        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SHp-NiGM5-k

        Vs e.g. FitBit Sense
        https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=Quantified+Scie…

I recommend you watch a review of the device you're looking to purchase and make an informed decision.

        • I watch them all and for majority of people Samsung is fine .
Remember it’s not a medical device and doesn’t say it is one .

And Garmin is the best for fitness Fitbit has had its day .

And then you have to decide if you want basic features like notifications or actual usable smart watch features something Fitbit lacks .
That’s if Fitbit actually connects my last one was utter garbage kept disconnecting wouldn’t sync etc .

  • Got one at Xmas, tried to wear all day but the watch back seemed to heat up my wrist. Made me feel very uncomfy after a while, even itchy. Anyone feel the same? It's metal so can't be an allergy. Could be the light that beams out nonstop.
