20% off The Good Guys Gift Cards at Australia Post

4400

20% off on The Good Guys gift cards when purchased at Australia Post from 30 April to 13 May.

PS: Although the deal technically starts on the 30th, some Australia Post outlets seem to be honouring the deal now.

PPS: Looks like the link has been photoshopped out of the Australia Post official catalogue. And the link has been removed from Lasoo. I've updated the link to the catalogue. It is on the bottom of page 5 of the catalogue.

      • private or not they are a franchise and are bound by the same trading and pricing guidelines?
Not that hey could sell a 60 cent stamp for 65 cents???

        • hmm not sure. I tried two places and they said the same thing.

My local PO has reserved $2050 worth of cards for me, for Monday morning. Very nice of them. The PO closest to my workplace, however, has already sold out. I also had $300 worth of the restaurant ones put aside too. Might manage 3 dinners for two out of them.

Without a doubt, this is the best OzBargain deal I've ever seen. Nothing comes close.

    • How do you get them reserved? Did they take down your particulars?

      • +1

Honestly I don't know. I took up some cards to the counter, and they said the sale wasn't on yet, so I said that that's ok, I'll return on Monday. She then said 'but I can put some aside for you, if you like' and I took up her kind offer.

shrugs no idea why I'm being negged. Usually I'm a dick and deserve it. :)

        • lol, what you've done is alerted the staff to the deal and come Monday they would have mysteriously disappeared (into their own pockets)

    • I have some reserved as well. I can't imagine why that would be a reason for a neg.

    • -1

No idea why Wedge is being negged - he hasn't done anything wrong! Others have already bought cards and they're not getting negged. Baffling.

      • +2

he'll get un-negged once he gets his cards.. we only reward winners

        • +1

I got them on Monday morning. The full $2050 worth. Tada!

  • Just bought $1500 worth from the post office in Midland, Perth, in front of Midland Gate…lady who served me didn't know about the deal, but didn't question the start date, was happy sell some to me and keep some for her own! :) For those of you in the area, there are still STACKS of $100 and $50 gift cards there, apparently I was the first person to buy these gift cards…

    • I just went to the same place and got the same lady as you :) First thing she said was there was someone who brought $1500 this morning second thing she said was I've got some for myself sitting here ready to go through. I got $600 in $100 cards I estimate that there's a few $100s left and maybe $800 worth of $50s
BTW the Midland business centre has none.

  • Just checked another store in SA and they won't sell before the 30th…:(

They also didn't let me put them aside…

  • +1

Tried my local…won't sell until 30/4

  • When in doubt, call the customer service centre I say! I rang and advised the item was missing from the online catalogue and initially I was told that was because they were out of stock. I advised I was at a local post office who had about 15-20 of the cards. He then proceeded to call that post office and hold a quantity for me for Monday!

  • Fairfield (vic) was selling today. Anyone know if the 24 hour activation actually takes that long?

    • I bought yesterday at 1.30 and at 8:30pm, they were good to go.

      • Is there a way to confirm they are activated?

        • +1

I guess you could try them on the website and just not go through with the purchase

  • +2

$100 (i ain't greedy!) giftcard obtained, ixus 115hs reserved for pickup tomorrow!

    awesome!

  • None of the POs in my area will sell before Monday :(
Boy I hope they are at least consistent with that policy till then.

  • +1

Just got 4 × $100 from my local PO. Around 5 more left. The salesman didn't even know about the deal until i showed him the receipt posted on this thread.

Lol, after i finished paying, he went to get the other cards for himself.

    • now we know why those cards not there

  • Anyone bought an iPad with these yet?

    • Cards need 24-48 hours to activate after purchasing from auspost… I put some iPads aside for Monday. They had no issue using cards to pay the full amount.

      • my store wouldnt let me put an ipad aside, not even with a deposit.
they couldnt even promise to get new stock in a timely manner if they sell out.
arrrgh, I guess thats why i dont deal with GG normally.

    • No stock but I have 2 on hold for when they arrive.

    • My friend got one when he picked up my camera for me.

There were 4 others reserved (most likely by fellow ozbargainers waiting for Monday!)

      • MY LOCAL GG ASKED FOR 20% DEPOSIT TO PUT THE IPAD ON HOLD..
        CAN'T PAY WITH GIFT CARD..

  • Anyone know if they have a better range of cameras instore? Was looking for the panasonic G3

    • i am also interested to buy a camera too. does any TGG store stock DSLRs camera like 7D and above?

  • We don't have a good guys anywhere near here, do you think the Australia post here will still stock the cards?

  • Anyone know if it's worth buying a robotic vacuum cleaner (i Robot)with this deal? Last time I read here, it was cheaper from big w online. So can we price match online store with TGG?

    • +1

      I have a Roomba 560 I got from MemorySuppliers.com for US$299 shipped (from America) in May 2010.
It's still going strong, will get a container full of dust in most rooms even right after vacuuming normally (probably because it does better at getting in all the corners, etc).

If you're keen , look overseas.

    • Costco has the robotic vacs too, though might be the roomba? I'll check out today if possible.

  • If all the catalogues have them removed now, how are you getting the 20%? Is it advertised in store? i'm about to head down to the local P.O. and try my luck

    • Answer my own query, in-store catalogue had the sale, as did the poster on the wall. Bought the last $650 worth at Southland (VIC)

  • Bought another $500 at Brookside (Brisbane), and another $800 at Aspley.
All going towards a new kitchen. No-one queried the dates.
Tried 2 others prior (Arana Hills, Stafford Hgts) but they were non-corporate presumably franchises.

    • aha- i got $1000 at brookside, i figure you got the $50 cards i left behind :p

  • Also have friends that are recent home owners and they are going after this deal on Monday as well for their Whitegoods. Hope AusPost is ready on Monday :)

  • Put two aside… I want an iPad but I think I can wait. End of year I'll be traveling so I'll get something back anyway. If only good guys sold the nifty fifty! :(

  • If you already have the cards, my advice is to wait until EOFYS

Find the lowest sale price, price match, and then use cards. You will get more benefit that way (as long as TGG dun go bust)

    • +2

Great ideas but it's your parenthesised caveat that troubles me.

      • Not to worry, you'll be able to get refund from Aust Post, cos that's where you got it from.

  • Thanks for posting this deal. Just grabbed $1500 worth :D

I tried 2 other aus post shops but they refused to start selling prior to Monday. This third one was a charm, the gentleman was happy to let me have them even though he knows the sale starts next Monday. I'd say for those still trying to get in before the sale, don't take no for an answer! Try to convince them a little.

    Good luck.

    • Hey deale, which post office? … and did they already know about the 20% off and how to process it through the register or did you have to produce a catalogue/receipt or something like that?

      • Sorry, I don't feel it's fair to reveal which PO it is as they might get in trouble. It's a small PO in the western suburb of Melbourne.

To answer your other questions, they didn't know about the deal until I told them about it. They then checked their promotional material to confirm. I didn't have to show catalogue nor receipt. It was painful watching him put the card through the system one by one and then having to put a date on each card.

  • I am interested in the new ipad but seems like most stores are "out of stock", some stores don't even sell ipads.

Hope they still get more stock from Apple.

  • Just brought my dishwasher with my vouchers this was an awesome bargain thanks for posting :D

  • Have anyone managed to buy these cards with a credit card?

    • +1

Yes. You can pay by credit card.

      • Thanks :)

    • +1

why would you not be able to? did you have a problem?

      • I was thinking they'd be similar to money orders where it's strictly cash or debit/EFTPOS cards only.

  • -1
    • I can't see it

      • Yeah I just see white.

        • -1

It has been ozbargained. That why they removing it.

    • Now photoshopped out.
Not listed for online purchase, although many others are.
I'll have to check online Monday to see if they magically appear.

  • -5

Imagine if these turned out to be one of the variety of gift cards that are actually just prepaid EFTPOS cards….

    • -1

      Only toughguys neg without commenting

  • I've noticed heaps of people wanting to get the new iPad… was wondering what people thought of the iMac? I'm thinking of getting one to replace my crappy desktop (not Apple) and thought this is an amazing deal if I was to get GG to price match Dick Smith's 10% deal (which happens so often), then get 20% off with the gift cards. Is the lack of mention because iMac's are just not so popular, or not well stocked at GG? I'm not very tech savvy at all, so any opinions is much appreciated, thanks!

    • GGs don't carry Mac computers, sorry. (at least in Vic)
      Some carry iPads

iMac is an alright all rounder if you prefer the OS, great screen. No Bluray is crap, if you can wait a bit processors should be updated for Ivy Bridge soon

      • TGG do stock iMac's whether your local has stock or not is a different story.
        My local does.

    • That was because the iPad is hardly on sale. U can always see macs are 10% off, but it never includes iPad.

  • do they sell a fixed amount on the card or you can mentioned that you wanna buy x amount that need to be filled on the card?

    • Cards are fixed amounts

      • do you know the amount on it?

        • +1

          $50 / $100 only

  • I just checked the GG's web site, it seems that no the new ipad 16G for all store in WA.

It is so sad as I wished to buy the new ipad Monday.

    • On Friday Osborne park and Midland had stock.

    • +1

Try calling some stores, my local said no stock online but had plenty in store

  • No reason why you can't use these to buy iTunes cards right?

Buy these at 20% off then go to The Good Guys and redeem them for iTunes cards

    • +1

No way I would buy Itunes unless they were 25 - 33% off, at least one retailer at a time has them discounted at 20+% off. I will be waiting for items to be discounted or a real good deal, and then use the cards for 20% on top of that :)

      • 20% off is better than nothing

And chances are if I wait it will never happen

But hey wait till I've bought my iTunes card because there's a 99% chance that iTunes card will get discounted the week after

  • +4

Does anyone know if it would be secure to provide credit card details and buy through here?

    http://uat.shop.auspost.com.au/gifts/gift-cards/sku/0590182

    • I can now see everyone buying this online at the stroke of midnight.

    • +4

I will be very wary of this - from the url, seems like this is an UAT environment (UAT = User Acceptance Test) and if you look online from www.auspost.com.au and navigate to the giftcard section - you do not see TGG gift cards.

      • +1

That is what I am asking? So not a good idea?

I found it when I searched google "good guys gift cards 20% off auspost"
        its the 4th search result.

I figure its not secure as its like the Beta version of the site, yes?

        • That's right. I wonder if people do a search on google and this comes up, and people will start buying the gift cards and paid for it. Wonder if Auspost will honour the purchase considering that UAT (testing environment) should not be publish to the public to access.

        • +4

Maybe this will switch over to the real site at Midnight, …or turn into a pumpkin?

      • +1

I am the last person that would have a clue about this kind of thing, but I searched the product ID (0590182) on the Australia Post website. That product ID is for Express Post envelope C5 pack of 10. It seems very dodgy to me.

    • how did you find this link? it's certainly not there via the main site

    • +3

I don't think it is safe to give any credit card details when it is not https:

      • I just realised Chrome doesn't show http:

        • I didn't even realise it was a UAT link. Just got email confirmation :)

          shrug

        • @LoopyLou,
Your transaction just got added to a testing database.
Your card hasn't been charged. The UAT just assumes all card transactions are valid without verifying them so whoever is testing it at AusPost's end can see it all working.

Try it yourself, but enter random numbers for the CC information. It just says thanks for payment, blah blah.
Now try on the real AusPost site. It attempts to verify and fails the transaction.

        • @loopylou … will you complain to AusPost esp. now that you have entered and submitted your personal details & credit card details?

        • -1

          @cooni
          Good trick
FREE iPAD here we come ;) lol

        • Why would I complain?

  • -1

Or try this one for all four 20% off card deals:

    http://uat.shop.auspost.com.au/gifts/gift-cards

    • oops, I entered my details too, bought a stack and got a confirmation email. (all in a rush of the excitement)
thought this was way too easy to be true…

damn - hope it wasnt at phishing site.

      • It wasn't. The order will just end up no where.

        • thanks - will have to hit the streets to find some.

Sounds like this offer was more popular than they expected, which is weird.

As it is a real legit offer, not an error - so I would think they will get in more stock.
Not like best restaurants or goodguys management was not in on the sale.

    • Hey Guys I ordered 10 Gift Cards for $802.95.Doesn't seems to be charged yet on CC details but recieved confirmation mail by Email. Please Guys help me out I am really in shit what to do now.Was at work & ordered in rush at works.

  • -5

    http://uat.shop.auspost.com.au/gifts/gift-cards
    http://shop.auspost.com.au/gifts/gift-cards

the first link is not the auspost website, but second one does. however, the second link don't have any "The Good Guys gift card (20% off)".

you can "check out - confirm purchases" and see address what's different!

    • I think the Auspost's IT dept will get into trouble if lots of people actually access the URL and purchase the gift cards thinking it is a legitimate url.

    • why did you neg then?

    • One important thing. I tried to register at original post australia website (without uat)and login at the post australia website (with uat) and I found that they are able to retrieve my details. Personally think it may be the legitimate one.

  • +1

Has anyone tried getting these from TGG and pricematching or using the 120% difference garauntee?
