Best IKEA Office/Gaming Chair Suggestions

Hello Good People
I have recently purchased 2/3 Tarok Razer and Taro Razer pro and unluckily they all were faulty, latest one broke its wheel in 5 days.
I am returning this one today and need a new chair for WFH. I am looking into IKEA chairs and not sure which one to get among below three.

Very happy with MATCHSPEL and nice plush cushion. Sit on it 10+ hours a day. It's great if you can't bring yourself to spend $1,000+ on a chair in a temp rented apartment (and don't have any back problems).

    • You sit on a vinyl seat for 10+ hours a day?? Holy sweatballs

      • No such issues.

    • thanks for ur review, did u try JÄRVFJÄLLET when u bought ur one?

      • I haven't tried that one.

      • Ive got the JÄRVFJÄLLET. I'd go the markus over JÄRVFJÄLLET if I were to do it again, friends markus is comfier.

  • I have been using Markus for 5+ years with the faux leather seat cover, it's been excellent.

I am currently sitting on a MARKUS chair with a fabric seat cover.

It has a very comfy cushion on the base (especially when sitting on it for long stretches during a day) and the armrests are at a good height. The fabric on the cushions and rubber on the top of the armrests have also held up well over the last year I have owned it.

The only thing I hate about it is that the lumbar support cushion on the chair’s back is not adjustable. It sits too low for me on my spine, which means that I get nice support below my lumbar, and nothing for my lumbar itself. If only it was height adjustable!

    • I bought a Markus chair a couple of months ago and have hated it. I know that something like the comfort of a chair is very subjective but I just didn't get why there was so much love for it on OzB. Your reference to the non-adjustable lumbar seems be one reason why it is not meeting my satisfaction. For me (178cm), it is also too low and not in the right place. I found the seat depth a bit short and with the lumbar support lower than I need it, I am pushed further forward on the seat. My legs are left hanging too far over the seat cushion and I feel like I am sliding away.

The thickness of the seat cushion feels just about perfect, although it is flat and there is not really any ergonomic shape about it. Another thing I don't like is the auto-locking castors. When you get up, they lock, making it difficult to push back under the desk. Same when wheeling it out from under the desk. I have thick carpet (not shag pile) and the wheels digging in make it frustrating to move. I'd prefer not to use a chair mat. That aside, it feels very solid, durable and the airy mesh back is great on hot summer days.

I think it is important to test the chair out properly before buying. I had intentions to, although I do not live near an Ikea. I ended up somewhere nearby one so went to buy it. It was back when covid was rife, there were a lot of people in store and a line up to test chairs. I inspected it quickly and got out without testing it thoroughly. If you test it and find the lumbar in the right spot and also don't mind the auto-locking castors, this would make a great chair. Unfortunately, it didn't suit me and I will likely be stuck with it.

  • I've had the Jarvfallet with fabric base for a few yrs now (for some reason it's not on their website anymore) and it's been great. I went in store and chose it over Markus because it had a few more adjustable options + just preferred the firm fabric over leather.

Thank you all for your feedback. I went yesterday and tried these three and GRUPPSPEL. I have an ARKELSTORP at home so it was easy for me to compare it with the table there.
Markus's fabric cover was the best part. It ticked almost all the boxes except adjustable lumbar support and tiny fixed armrest. which was uncomfortable for me so I had to skip it.

JÄRVFJÄLLET felt good. but its adjustable armrest is narrower and the most annoying part is its PU leather cover headrest.

MATCHSPEL headrest is a mesh setup and the armrest is wider ( GRUPPSPEL has the best armrest). lack of lumber support was the main problem but i found they introduced a lumbar pillow for Matchspel and it does the job pretty well. Just one more thing, I felt seat depth of all these chairs are bit short

GRUPPSPEL was a better seat in all aspects but reaching the $400 mark made me think about the SecretLAB or RAZER Inaki/ISKUR so i made up my mind and got a Matchspel instead with a lumbar pillow and I am now sitting on it feeling quite comfortable

    • can you please share what's the matching lumbar pillow? link? Thank you.
