55 Inch or Less TV - Budget $1000

Our old TV just busted.

Would anyone know a decent TV under $1000 that's good? It has to be 55 inches or less due to the small living room we have & my missus would prefer if it has a nice easy interface so she can watch Netflix, Amazon, etc. I don't care about brand names just want the best bang for buck! Right now I'm considering this TCL

Thanks in advance!

I got a TCL TV and it died before reaching the 3 year mark. I would avoid.

$900 TV plus Chromecast with Google TV. Don't worry about the built in apps and just use the CC

Hisense 55" for $795 should be sufficient, or splash for this one for $995 and get full array local dimming (ULED vs UHD)

  • Don't get a TCL - their customer service is next to useless. Constant back and forth and waiting on their technical experts for almost 5 months, with weekly reminder emails. As per above, get a chromecast and forget about the built in apps.

  • OP, my suggestion would be to keep aside $100 for Google TV/Chromecast (or go with Shield for more advanced capabiltiies) and spend up to $900 for the TV. Since all the smarts are in the Chromecast, you only have to worry about getting a "dumb" TV that can focus on giving a good and clear display. We have been using it that way for the past 4 years and its been amazing.

  • Pretty well all comes out of China with slave labour. Getting something from Aldi could be called a bargain. Personally I got a Hisense, but in hindsight the older models were less restrictive. But the brand has grown up to even sell 8k sets. Get the missus to choose, mine gets less and less use due to available content declining in cultural value.

  • I would buy this LG 55UP8000PTB for $895 while its on special for the next 2 days and purchase the extended 4 year warranty for $99
