  • You should add ETA of 24th.

10GB card for anyone wondering. Maybe add to the post too - but you'd assume that'd be the case for the price it is

    • I'm out of the loop but is 10GB not good enough or something?

      • +3

3080 is also sold as 12gb.

      • -3

10GB is 25% faster at mining than 12gb, hence the popularity amongst miner or gamer/miner or true hard holdler gamer that soon to be miner.

        • +1

i got a quadro p6000 with 24g ram, definitely not faster than this, is it better for mining?

          • @reacher: no idea, just give it a shot, once you tasted the honey, you won't go back…

      • @bradclash, no I wasn't saying that. I was just wondering myself because it wasn't in the original post.

    • yes, been doing that since late 2019. covid is just making it super.

      • +1

What do you mine these days ? Was briefly into the mining stuff back to the days 1070ti was a modern card. Would like to do sth similar with my 3080, which otherwise has been mainly used for playing dota 2

        • +2

ETH, ALPH, Flux, Ergo, you name it.

  • How fast and how far we thinking GPU prices are coming down to, chaps? I.e., if we hodl till Easter, should we expect to be able to buy a 12GB RTX 3080ti for this sort of coin, or nah that's too ambitious?

    • +3

I would HODL till Easter, sure there'll be better deals coming soon for both GPU & prebuilt

    • +1

3080 Ti is priced 'right' from the beginning, it may not drop as fast as the 10gb 3080 version due to the mess with the 12gb variant.

Its also the 'bridge' version between 3080 and 3090 so it needs to be in between those 2 in terms of pricing, somewhere in the middle.

You see the 3080 10gb pcb has 2 'empty' slots for the vram, as if it has been planned from the beginning all along maybe.

      • You could get EVGA 3080's around $1600 this time last year, I think easily hit that price in a month or 2, as long a supply remains. all the chips may go to the 12gig version, and although never officially discontinued won't be able to buy 10gig 3080's

    • +1

Im in the same boat, hanging for a good deal on a 3080ti, preferably EVGA or MSI (would consider Gigabyte). Anything under 2k might be an insta buy for me…considering Ive been waiting on a gfx card to finish off my new itx build for moonntthss

      • are you sure it will fit? not many itx cases can fit a 3 fan gpu

        • nr200p will fit anything if you set your mind to it ;)

  • +3

    Also, Galax 12gb 3080 for $1899 @ Pccasegear

  • Have this. well the Non-LHR. (Bought for 1200 waited 9 months πŸ˜‚)

Gets a bit warm when playing new titles with things crancked up to 11. (after some use probably)
I use a pedestal fan sometimes to keep it under 60-65c (Forza Horizen 5 is a good example)

I think it is due to the shorter heatsink fin stack.

But that being said, bloody nice to have if ya can get one.

Hybrid Cooler seems to help. Did not test yet (not game enough to take it apart yet)

    • +2

60-65c is cold for this series gpu on full load. What does it get too without the pedestal fan? If it's under 80c…its all G :)

      • Does not go over 75c for sure.
But gpu fans go mad at that point due to my fan curve/profile.

        • +1

Yeah imo needs to be under 80c and quiet and I'm happy

          • @Dvbargain: the temperatures electroz mentioned are actually what you want 60 - 65c, that gets you maximum boost frequencies. At 80c it's perfectly safe but it's thermally throttled. In real world use, I grant you, probably won't notice a difference

            • @bobvegas: That's an overarching statement. Not every card thermal throttles before 80c.

But I get your point :) I think 60c target for Max load on a GPU is pointlessly overzealous and I would personally prefer a quieter fan curve

    • $1200 good bargain!

  • Pre-order?
The sellers are getting nervous now.
    Hodl!

    • +1

Yes, HODL everyone, let them panic, worse come to worse, we can wait until September for the 4000 series.

Graphically Challenged just predicted the prices for the new RTX40 series cards:
    RTX4060 $499USD
    RTX4070 $699USD
    RTX4080 $999USD
    RTX4090 $1800 - 2000USD
    RTX4090 TI $2000+++?

That sounds worth to expect πŸ˜ƒ

    • +1

Would that 999 translate to 1750 AUD?

      • +1

Depends on how many mh/s it produces.

      • Good point.
At this stage, this idiotic prediction of 999 USD translates to 4000 AUD and Sept 22 translates to Sept 2024.
Seems like the stupid predictions that ETH will finally be converted to Proof of Stake instead of Proof of Work. They've been at it for 5 years…

        • Crazy! I know.

    • Hah! Price predictions, eh?
More like triple that and you'll have your launch numbers, if things continue the way they are and China takes over Taiwan.

      • I dont think China taking over Taiwan is happening. It would cripple the entire planet. Maybe a another worldwar will happen if such an attempt is made.

        • Yeah, they did it with HK and there were no repercussions, now they're allying with Russia and they're getting really greedy and who's going to stop them?
Australia's too busy with gender studies in the army and beating the crap out of its own unarmed population to be bothered with fighting a real enemy.
The US is in the same boat and all other western allies don't have enough firepower to match a firecracker.

Time will tell, but I'm old enough to remember just 2 years ago, when people were saying that HK would never be allowed to be taken by China, and yet here we are.

Edit: This is not me being "in favor of X or Y", I'm simply saying it like it is. Doesn't mean I like it, but it is what it is.

          • @DigSpider: I get it. Its surpring how the entire planet's chip requirement are on one small country, when intelligence is everywhere. What a risky situation to be in.

            • @[Deactivated]: The past 2 years, if anything, should have taught us all the risks of relying on a single country for all your stuff (medical equipment, electronics, etc).
I've been buying some very high level stuff for a new PC I'm assembling and, while in the past these would be made all over the place (Germany, Taiwan, South Korea, etc), now they're ALL from China. From PSU, to motherboard to even the CPU itself.

If they sneeze, we all catch a fever (pun intended).

              • @DigSpider: Absolutely! And the worst part when the Australian food imports were limited by China, USA and Canada were silently exporting it to China taking advantage of the situation. Sigh!

          • @DigSpider: πŸ‡·πŸ‡Ί taking back πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¦ and πŸ‡¨πŸ‡³ taking πŸ‡ΉπŸ‡Ό will keep Biden busy, if he can stay awake past breakfast.

  • Looks like LHR may have been defeated for those looking for a mining card.

    • +1

99% chance this is just malware

    • try it and let me know how you go.

  • +3

    Two things:
The 4xxx series are rumoured to be massive power hogs. Their performance jump so soon will come at a big cost.

I believe the $1139 msrp is a manufactured lie. I'm assuming this is from nvidias limited founder edition cards, which sell out straight away then are gone forever.

The third party cards - the ones you are actually buying - are always going to be more.

Realisticly, if there were no chip shortages, miners et all…. a 3080 (non "ultra") would be about $1300 aud.

    • +1

no such thing as 3080 Ultra.

    • No, the $1,139 msrp i mentioned i based on what they were selling for originally. Search 3080 on ozbargain and go to the last pages when they were first posted on ozbargain and prices were ranging from $1,139 - $1300 for the exact cards if not better. The sad part is everyone was downvoting those prices and saying they were already above msrp or too highly priced.

Welcome to 2022 where we’d be excited for a 3080 under $1500 :( if only we knew back then.

  • I think the EVGA GeForce RTX 3080 12GB FTW3 ULTRA GAMING at $1,899 is better value and will better maintain its high resolution performance and resale value. I just bought one:

    https://www.bpctech.com.au/product/12g-p5-4877-kl-evga-gefor…

    • What's the status on your order? I've ordered the exact same model and it seems like they're having some dramas with the supplier and haven't even received the card yet, so my shipping is now delayed by 1 week at least…

      • I was told some time this week but I don't believe that is a firm ETA.

        • Yeah, on their website it said they'd have stock on the 28th, but that was clearly overly optimistic.
We'll see how it goes. I expect mine to be shipped by early next week at the latest, otherwise will start chasing them again.
