I saw the deal posted for a 3080 HP Omen and saw on the same website that there was a decent deal on a 3050Ti model, specifically with a Ryzen 7 5800H. Seems like a good all rounder machine if you want to use it for day to day tasks.

Reviews say that this has almost 9 hour battery life. Seems like a good deal since it has a beefy processor with some gaming if you need.

There's also a version with a 3060 for 180 dollars extra, but has a i7 11800H, which is a processor with terrible battery life.

  • Also noticed the same laptop with i7-11800H is the same price. Thoughts on i7-11800H vs Ryzen 7 5800H?
    https://www.hp.com/au-en/shop/victus-by-hp-laptop-16-d0247tx…

    • The Intel 11800h is a lot less power efficient than the AMD 5800H, so you will get much better battery life out of the Ryzen edition.

The screen on the Intel version is inferior, mentioned at the start of this post, and has an inferior colour gamut compared to the AMD version.

  • As mentioned before the i7 has a different screen.

For anyone wanting to know gaming performance, there is a YouTube video of the Victus, with a Ryzen 5 5600H, a 3050ti with 60 games. Settings based on the poster is medium/high.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fvC5igDGGsY

  • does anyone know if I can use this laptop can handle 4 monitors (Full HD no need 4K). Or if anyone has a recommendation a laptop that can handle it.

  • Is 4GB of video RAM enough? :S

HOTS uses 5GB of video RAM on Medium settings.

I get it's for business/entry level gaming but I'd be sad to buy it and run games that end up being sluggish.

    • +1

insufficient vram wont make the game sluggish in terms of frame rates usually, it will more likely result in texture pop in.

      • Thanks! :)

AMAZING DEAL! thx op, bought 2

  • Hmm went in to check and I see my order cancelled :( Didn't get any emails about it. Payment went thru. Bought this morning. Support just ticketed me saying it will need to be investigated and they can't guarantee it will be done today. Anyone else got theirs canned?

    • Yes, i bought both the 16 and 17 inch models and both got cancelled 3 minutes after the payment was confirmed.

      • Did you buy as a business by any chance? And which payment method, time of order. Wanting to see if there is a pattern and it's worth reordering or they just ran out of stock..

        • I ordered at 8am, used a visa card funded with cash not credit and didnt tick the business option. I bought both laptops in the one transaction $3,778.00. And 3 minutes after "Your order has been paid." i got "Your order has been Canceled." Live chat opened a ticket which just says the dedicated team may take 24-48 hours.

          • @LowRange: Yeah I bought around the same time.. And did another purchase now which got canceled so looks like OOS

            • @digitizer: Both my 16" and 17" laptops have now changed from cancelled to processing and they are on step 3 "Wait for shipment".

    • Purchased last night at 10pm and confirmation of dispatch this morning. They could be out of stock, looks like a very popular deal

    • I ordered the ryzen model at 12 noon. Not for business. No cancellation so far and hopefully will arrive early next week.

      • Still not cancelled?

        • I ordered around 4pm today, not for business, checked out as guest as I did not have an account with HP. I paid with a debit card & received cashback tracked AUD 27.25 email received within 10 mins. No cancellation email so far, hopefully it goes through.

        • Out of curiosity, I contacted the online sales team about my hp account and was told there was an error on their part. Said my order is correct but something was wrong on their side. They raised a ticket to fix my order and will email me again when they can update my order status. Not sure what this means but I still haven't receive the update email yet.

is that just me see low nits, no thunder port and non oled as deal breaker???
    I knew it cheap.

    • Ryzen doesn't have thunderport. So how can something that doesn't exist in current models be a deal breaker?

      • glad to know, looking forward for your opinion for low nits and non oled.
Well it unlikely have oled panel for this price anyway…

I need to upgrade from my several years old Lenovo B50-70, due mostly to battery issues and non-compatibility passed Win10 and this caught my eye. Unfortunately PC Mag's review is not flattering " … But it lacks biometrics and a Thunderbolt port, and its display hinge and touchpad are low-quality. Frankly, we liked HP's outgoing Pavilion Gaming laptops better. For now, you're better off sticking with a competing 15.6-inch gaming laptop like the Predator Triton 300 SE"

    edit:
"The Victus 16's plastic build does not inspire confidence; there's not much give if you press the keyboard deck but a ton of flex if you grasp the screen corners. The screen hinge feels downright flimsy, wobbling wildly if tapped and vibrating if you type with a heavy hand"

OOS, so my thoughts are now void, lol

  • Keen to get peoples opinions. I recently brought a Surface Laptop 15in Ryzen but 8GB Ram. It's great except for maxing out RAM constantly and crap ports. Is this going to be better for pure productivity work (mostly multitasking windows apps and light computational simulation work) , no gaming. Numpad would be excellent for me. Or should I look elsewhere

    • OOS now but for pure productivity this is pretty good for a laptop. If you need a touchscreen then maybe look for an Ideapad or a Ryzen powered 2 in 1 as ryzen 5s offer more cores and better battery life in the midrange generally. keep your eyes peeled for a good deal on ozb

      • thanks Spoodsterm, No need for touchscreen, or 2-in-1s . Tks for the tips

  • Mine just arrived however it states 250nits screen on the exterior attached label. I hope that is wrong as getting the better panel was a big factor in my buying decision. Anyone know if this is just an error on the labels? I won't have time to open it up and check for a day or so

    • is your model number correct? 16-e0201AX?

      • Yep, but the label attached that includes the model also stated 250nits screen

        • Damn. But at least you got your laptop. I'm still waiting for my allocation for delivery. Feels like my order will likely be cancelled now

    • I am interested to know, once you open it up, where can you find the actual value of nits?

I ask because I ordered one and it's coming Monday. The specs clearly state 300 nits, so 250 would be annoying:

      Display: 40.9 cm (16.1") diagonal, FHD (1920 x 1080), 144 Hz, 7 ms response time, IPS, micro-edge, anti-glare, Low Blue Light, 300 nits, 100% sRGB
      at https://www.hp.com/au-en/shop/victus-by-hp-laptop-16-e0201ax…

      • +1

You can't. These things can only be measured using a photometer. TBH I am typing this on the laptop and 250 or 300 nits it feels more than enough to me.

        • so yours has 300 nits and it's the same model as our order 16-e0201AX?

          • @wiltonson: It says 250 nits on the box, but the webpage says 300nits. Either way, it looks 300 to me.

    • Mine just arrived today. box says 250 nits. installed HDRdisplay test and it says 270nits max, which I think the box spec of 250 nits is indeed correct. I used my phone app to test and measured 270 lux too. Test it on my dell S2721s and I got 370 lux at max brightness.

Hmm not sure what to think now. Screen does feel a bit washed out when i first turn on, perhaps not bright enought?

    • Looks like they have updated the specs on the website :

      https://www.hp.com/au-en/shop/victus-by-hp-laptop-16-e0201ax…
      Display40.9 cm (16.1") diagonal, FHD (1920 x 1080), 144 Hz, 7 ms response time, IPS, micro-edge, anti-glare, Low Blue Light, 250 nits, 100% sRGB

      wtf

      • wtf. So what does that mean? We all bought 300nits screens and they gave us 250 and just changed the website?

        • not sure if it's just mine has 250 nits. the box lable also says box 3 of 100. could be the new batch with 250 nits. can others confirm they got 300 nits or 250 nits? maybe worth checking with a lux sensor app or the HDRdisplay test, both free.

          • @wiltonson: mine also says 250 nits on the box. I called HP to ask them if its 250 nits as pe the sticker on the box or 300 nits as per the website. How convenient they have now updated the webiste. Should have screen shot it as proof.

            • @dlakers3peat: I did save the page as a pdf and it has 300 nits.

              Display 40.9 cm (16.1") diagonal, FHD (1920 x 1080), 144 Hz, 7 ms
response time, IPS, micro-edge, anti-glare, Low Blue Light, 300
              nits, 100% sRGB

I have emailed them back on my original order to explain it.

Not sure I have any rights or options other then to return the item as 'not as advertised'

              • @cubmar: Are you able to upload and link the screenshot? I didn't get a screenshot of it unfortunately but it definitely said it was a 300nits screen. Also keep us updated as to what they say please. I might return mine

              • +1

@cubmar: FYI complain to HP about the victus you purchased because the specs on the website said it was 300 nits when it is actually 250 nits. They will offer you a $100 refund or you can send it back.

              • +1

@cubmar: Hi wiltonson. FYI complain to HP about the victus you purchased because the specs on the website said it was 300 nits when it is actually 250 nits. They will offer you a $100 refund.

                • @dlakers3peat: Hi dlakers3peat. Did you contact HP via their whatsapp messaging service or did you call them up? Last time I called it too forever for someone to answer

  • Laptop freezes every time I open Edge.
    Windows 11 :(

There is no sticker on my screen about the nits.

Got sticker about 144Hz, but the display properties shows 1920x1080 at 64Hz.
    I have done windows update

    • Mine arrives soon

    • the sticker is on the side of the outer box the laptop arrived in.

  • +1

Quick update: I called and I am in the process of returning the product. Tbh the nits doesn’t bother me but it is the screen wobbling that is a massive deal breaker. Unfortunately, once you notice it you cannot unsee it and the only fix is to use it like it’s a desktop.

    • +1

I agree, the screen wobbles really badly and I wonder how secure those hinges are. Additionally, for me (and it may be a Windows 11 issue, though my son's Acer doesn't have this issue) Windows Explorer is awful. To open a folder on my external USB drive is taking 20-30 seconds, on any other laptop it's a second or two.

  • Screen display still showing 64Hz not 144Hz :-(
    I got the Ryzen variant.

  • I didn't have freezing problem when opening edge. System specification says 144hz for the display panel. DisplayHDR confirmed 270 nits and 99.89% sRGB.

I don't mind the 270 nits which is pretty sufficient, just annoyed they are not accurate with website spec. I mean what can they offer you if you complained? Get full refund is the only choice isn't?

    • +1

$100 refund I have been offered or return it for a full refund

      • What you think big boy?

  • Same. Just received an email offering $100 credit for purchase price of full refund for returning. Not a bad deal for $1100. The screen is wobbly and touchpad Is very flimsy plastic feel and yes Edge has crashed few times. I also can't seem to install/run Microsoft teams. It keeps coming with an error. Other then that I'm mostly using it for studies so not a biggie.

  • same got offered $100 credit or full refund

  • got the below email from hp just then, theyre offering a full refund or $100 credit. im happy with this as i use it plugged into a tv or monitor most of the time. can probably sort out the wobbly screen with tape or elastic or something similar so not a biggy

"We recently identified an error on our website that was live when you purchased your Victus by HP Gaming Laptop 16-e0201AX (5S2M5PA) on 23/02/2022. The laptop display was incorrectly advertised as 300nit brightness: the correct brightness is 250nit."

  • Yeah $100 refund for me too. Initially HP insists max $50 refund and I was seriously consider returning it and keep using my old Dell that's partially broken.

    • What do you think after the $100

      Worth it / happy?

      • The keyboard is actually quite good as I tested it at jb hifi against other laptops. Only wish it has RGB backlight or atleast 2 dimming level. Not a big deal as keyboard still lit up brightly

I like its plastic because aluminium laptop is too cold for my palm and my lap.

I use this mainly for productivity so the 100% sRGB is more important than having a 3060 graphic card. The 3050 card is more than sufficient for my occasional gaming. The screen wooble is real but I only notice it because all youtube reviewers talks too much about it.

It has full size SD card reader which most newer laptop don't have.

Plenty of USB ports and 1 USB-C (which unfortunately can't be used for charging)

The 70w battery lasted me nearly the whole day surfing net with MS office tasks. Fans are quiet or mostly off.

16GB of 1rx8 memory is great.
