Solid advice. If you hook it up to a TV the whole oled deal is nothing. Not sure if the system is quicker in general, stats wise etc.
it is no different, there are some minor physical changes between the 2 but the specs and performance are the same - really its all about the screen and it is very nice
Agreed, KRiSX.
There's always debate on 'is it worth it?' every time an OLED deal is published. It's not a computing performance upgrade, but it's still the better of the two console variants.
The whole point of Switch is that it's both docked and on-the-go (or away from living room) goodness and OLED offers a better experience for the latter.
If you're new to the console, definitely buy OLED if you can make budget.
If you're wondering whether to upgrade from the OG, if you have the coin and play away from the television then also go for it.
Those who can't justify dropping the extra cash to go OLED from OG tend to talk it down, but it's currently the best Nintendo has to offer. Hopefully a more powerful beast will arrive one day!
Internals are identical, the screen is obviously different, it has a proper kickstand (instead of that flimsy garbage on the regular Switch) and I think the speakers are better? That's basically it.
Actually I think it has more internal storage as well.

Rather than typing those comments, your hands should be better used for other things, like put it in meat grinder
You are assuming she will know how to work a meat grinder
huge upgrade
I wouldn't call upgrading the screen and leaving all the other ancient internals unchanged a "huge upgrade". I'd call it a new hat upgrade.
The upgrade is also more worth it if you had a launch model where the handheld battery life isn't particularly great. The V2 refresh improves on that, and that improvement is carried over to the OLED model.
But for those with V2 Switch models, that just leaves the OLED display itself and the better kickstand as the main improvements…and tbh, I'm not sure $500 is worth just those alone. Hoping the next refresh has some performance improvements too.
These are great for the titles, but honestly I do wish it had a spec upgrade as well to smooth out the FPS.
Integrated graphics have come a long way since the original switch release.
But Nintendo won't give us a proper upgrade while idiots keep over paying for cheaper outdated tech.
Console Wars: Revenge of the Swith
Edit: Comment made sense before typo in title got fixed
Discount due to low sales?
Yeah, it recently outsold the Wii 😂
I’m clearly only referring to the OLED model.
yes get this!!! love my oled switch it so good :D
Has anyone tried to swap out the OLED internal with an unpatched Switch internal?
Probably, but are they reading this deal? Unlikely
Thanks OP - done. A birthday sorted for next week. Looks like Amazon is matching Catch.
Catch is better with 15% off Gift Card, Unidays/Student Beans discount or targeted $15 coupon and Cashback ? $400 is a good price for Switch OLED considering how old in the tooth it is.
Which catch gift cards?
Unidays doesn't have any discounts for Catch and consoles are excluded from discounts for Student Beans
The lazy pricks couldn't even be bothered improving the internal specs
What console would be good for kids aged 4-7? Would want to avoid the addiction courtesy portability…
Would want to avoid the addiction courtesy portability…
Huh?
I mean that I want to avoid one that can be used without a tv/monitor

Switch does with/without monitor so you’d need to find something else.
Nintendo wii. Also get a cheap 720p monitor to go with it.
Isn't that discontinued? Was looking for similar with a control which can get kids off the couch even though they will be playing games. Essentially one with motion sensors and all
Yes it discontinued, but there are so many second hand wii out there (e.g.: facebook marketplace, gumtree, etc)
I have introduced my kid to games at that age and I regret doing it. I now think it's too early.
I see your point and that is my fear as well.
For those wondering whether it's worth the upgrade, the simple answer is yes if you use it a lot in handheld/tabletop mode, otherwise no.
For example my wife uses hers for around an hour most days, almost exclusively handheld, and says it was a huge upgrade. YMMV.
