Best Monthly (SIM Only) Plan Which Allows Roaming (International) Phone Calls

I'm currently on the BOOST $30 28 Day Plan

This gets me 40GB of monthly data and uses the Telstra network. I'm very happy with the service.

I am going to Europe in a couple months and am hoping to churn to a new provider which offers a similar deal WITH the ability to receive calls to my Aus number whilst abroad.

AFAIK Boost do not offer this.

Data roaming capability would be a bonus.

Any recommendations?
Thanks

edit: my initial searching came up stumps however i've found this thread - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/651149

i have an iphone 12 pro meaning i can add an esim with data plan whilst abroad and then leverage boost/telstra wifi calling!

  • Boost doesn't support roaming to many countries anymore.

That being said, just arrived in Singapore this morning and can confirm that WiFi Calling works!

I have tried calling Australian numbers :)

    • Thanks for your response - the main thing is I can receive SMS and calls to my Aus number which T-man has now confirmed. Thanks again

  • I am in the UK now and Telstra wifi calling is working well on my iPhone 12 Pro max, just buy a local sim and use the data for the Australia sim. You can make and receive calls and sms as you are in Australia but you can’t make international calls to another country, I tried to call a US number and I got a message like “the international number you dialled is not available for wifi calling when oversea”

And another option is Vodafone sim only plan, it is the best for oversea roaming, just pay $5 per day and you use all the inclusions data, call, sms like in Australia.

    • How are you manging to receive SMS to your Australian number if you've inserted a local (UK?) SIM?

      • Iphone 12 supports dual sims (1 esim and 1 physical sim) so I use Telstra eSIM and the local UK physical sim.

You will see this on your phone
        “Telstra using mobile data”

        • Ah.. I can't get an eSIM with Boost

          • @tommynolips: If you want the solution like mine you need to find a carrier supports both wifi calling and esim like Telstra, Vodafone, Optus, and Gomo.

            • @T-man: Thanks T-Man, I might look at porting across to a Telstra SIM just for the time I'm overseas.

  • +1

Optus had (has) roaming and a small data allowance included in some of their plans (I was on a $50 plan at the time and they gave me for free 4GB automatically). I needed to move to Telstra for work but will go back to them soon again. Was very handy when getting off the plane not having to be worried about getting other sim cards etc (Although many countries have them as you're walking out of the terminal so it's not that much of a hassle) Not all plans have it so good to get on chat and check with them. Also as others have said VoLTE and VoWifi if it works…
