Huawei AX3 Pro Wi-Fi 6 Router $76 Shipped @ Wireless1 via eBay

330
SNSAVE

I am currently looking to purchase a router for NBN service and was seriously thinking to invest in a good router such as the highly recommended Asus AX86u. But considering I may need to AiMesh it to get enough signal for my home which means an investment of another Asus router got me thinking of alternatives and then came across this one. At $76 this is probably a record low price and I can easily mesh it and won't break my bank.

I know some people don't like Huawei because of its Chinese origin (security concern) or its lack of certain support ie won't support Tpg service for reason that I am not sure about, but hey its $76 and it does the job, the online review is not bad, so pull the trigger at your own discretion.

Got one working at home as an wireless access point. The web interface is pretty trash so I’ve placed it in bridge mode as a wireless access point with a pfsense firewall. Decent speeds and decent range for the money

    • For light users mainly using Internet for video streaming or for work applications and would like to take advantage of WiFi 6, this is not a bad router at all. Not from my own experience but the common theme from other reviews are similar to your experience that it has strong signal and good range.

well more so its not the worth the saving if you're leaking so much data to the CCP

if they want my data they better sell it for $15 max lol

      • look at the neg. they can't even stand for a joke

Too many CCP lovers here. I guess the real truth hurts.

      • or there is always pessimist lurking around and attacking anything China.

    • Maybe ask Vince Cable, leader of the UK Liberal Democrats as to why Britain dismissed Huawei's 5G despite MI5/6 and Theresa May's insistence that it was safe to use.

  • I'm in an apartment building with shared wifi.

If I'm looking for something to access this existing wifi network, and then re-broadcast the internet connection under a new wifi network so that all my devices stay off the shared apartment network, can I do that with this device?

    • Not an expert but I'm pretty sure you can, just put the router into bridge mode, that is by connecting your existing modem to this Huawei modem via ethenet, and then configure your Huawei modem with a new access point should do the job.

      • Think it's just a router no modem ?

    • If you don't have an ethernet port and wifi is the only source, double check if this works as a wireless repeater.

      • Thanks, yes that's the issue, I have no ethernet port, only wifi access as the source. Does wireless repeater mode only broadcast the same network? Or will it let me create a new wifi network (for my own devices) and connect this to the apartment's shared network?

        • yes this can work as a wireless repeater/wifi extender.

        • You can rename it.

Then dump most of everything you own🤷🏼‍♂️

Most of what he owns don’t send data to China. Iam not against though. I use a p30 pro. But it’s his wish to not do it.

        • He made a broader statement that he didn't like it because it originated in China. If he meant just because of data then yeah that's a fair point, he should be clearer in his wording as it came across as anti Chinese sentiment that could be offensive.

            @Spendmore: Fair point!

      • Then dump most of everything you own

Most of everything I own is not made in China.

        • You are deluded, even a Japanese built Toyota is stuffed full of components made in China….do you have a phone, watch tv, have tyres on your bicycle?

          • @Spendmore:

            You are deluded

            Nope…

          • @Spendmore:

            do you have a phone

            Yes, two.

But I own much more than two things…

    • Oh wow

    • +4

Wow, what’s next? you don’t like someone because their origin?

To be fair I'm looking to dump my Huawei router I got with TPG and the cheap Chinese smart plugs I've currently got. Have been reading up about the massive amounts of data they send back to China and it's pretty shocking.

      • How can it affect us though?

        • From what I've read it's mostly the access they gain to your network and presumably subsequent login details to various accounts etc. Imagine that you want to do business in the future with a company that has links with China, they end up checking with HR back in the motherland who check your profile with a certain government agency. You'd not likely even be aware of it.
One dude (granted a target of the CCP) got his email hacked. He had planted fake information in his emails. This fake information found it's way into Chinese businessmen in Australia who tweeted about it.
          https://www.theaustralian.com.au/web-stories/free/the-austra…
I think there's a fair potential that if you're a business owner, there will be a profile on you (to varying degrees).

@pointblank: Ah ok, thanks for the insight.

            • +1

@Spendmore: On the flip side, setup a compromised network you won't use with your real accounts, create fake socials, post about how great China is and profit lol.

          • -1

@pointblank: Lol. Drew Pavlou is a known antagonist at University campuses who deliberately picks fights with Chinese Students using racist slurs to film to Youtube. He's changed his stories so many times when trying to provoke Confucian Institute branches in Australia just for publicity purposes.

So no.. Please don't trust this BS artist.

i bought this last year, im in a townhouse ~200sqm and it works perfectly full signal whole house, highly recommend for the price.
my parents house had an ac68u, i see no difference in wifi speed/range.

p.s i also work in IT

    • that's a surprise, I usually don't like Huawei's home gear as the terrible managment interface, but for this price I can tolerate that.

      • Yeah I was surprised how well it performed, I was expecting dropouts, but has been 100% stable.

Glad I bought this instead of some $250 Asus router

  • I bought this and sold it.

If you're ever gonna need max 100/20 speed over wifi then this is fine. If you want any faster like 250/25 or 1000/50 then you'll need a better router with strong wifi. This wifi is pretty weak unless you're right next it.

    • Any recommendations? What are you using now? Cheers.

I'm using the Netgear nighthawk XR1000

        I got it for $299

It's a high end router but its required if you want wifi speeds above 250/25

  • Can I mesh this with my Xiaomi AloT AX3600?

    • Plus ~$10 shipping for me

  • Check out the Xiaomi ax1800.. 59 bucks

    • Store? Mi-store appears to be sold out.

      • PC byte

  • These are good routers. Decent range (covered a duplex). Haven't tried meshing it - anyone have a mesh set up with these and can comment if its comparable to other mesh systems?
