Whats new in TV's

Well first they sold us LCD, then 3D, then LED, then Internet ready TV or smart TV. So whats this year got for TV's. so far the new range of TV's look to be the same as last year. may be looks a bit fancier but doesnt warrant the increase in price of over $1000 in some cases.

So my question is what can we expect this year other than cosmetic.

Where are those 4K resolution TV's?
and where are the OLED TV's?
What promotions can we expect for the olympics?

  • Cosmetic changes, better upscaling processors/algorithms and more responsive SmartTV interfaces, slightly blacker blacks are about all you can expect.

-Why do you want a 4K res TV when you have no 4K res media to watch on it?
-OLED TVs of a decent size are available but they're humungo expensive… ie $50,000+
-Retailers will push 3D TV's now that Nine has the go ahead to broadcast the (limited) 3D content that will be available.

    • The reason why 4k TV is not for 4K content. but goes well with the LG 3D tech. If they can sort out the cross talk.

Both samsung and LG had OLED TV's on display at CES2012 and had them scheduled to launch this year.

I find it hard for stores to sell the same TV's that they sold last year at higher prices with just a few advances.

It was bad enough when The new tech like 3D and internet TV's were sellign points. Now they will struggle even more.Last year for the first time in years TV sales numbers dropped

    • They won't make 4k media if there are no 4k TV's though.

Something has to somehow start it.

      • TV normally come before the tech. They wont have content unless there is something to view it on.

    • 9 is going to be broadcasting the Olympics in 3d I hear.

  • 3D TV without glasses?

  • yeah, toshiba just brought one out.

  • +1

My prediction for movements in TVs-

Retro - CRTs will make a comeback

  • 3D and "SmartTV" stuff is unnecessary garbage that tacks on massive amounts to a TV's price tag.

Stick to actual LED 100hz+ displays (not the "LED - Edge Lit" bollocks) & your all good. When comparing, the diff between the low end stuff and higher end stuff that's actually just a LED 100hz screen, has become very minimal. Cheaper but surprisingly good quality screens like Hisense/Sharp 40inch screens of this nature can be easily had for around $500-$600, heading up to the $1500 starting price point for 55inch & up models.

  • I was expecting more borderless tv's to be released.

    • I believe that the bordless TV's are all reserved for the higher range.
