Thanks OP - restocked the pantry :)

  • Tempted to try this
I've noticed it includes salt, Does anybody know if the spice rub (magic signature or brisket) runs salty (eg. can't put too much on the meat otherwise it taste very salty)?

Magic dust is the bomb goes on everything not to salty

      • Not sure if I used this recipe (believe I took a screenshot off a bbq forum) but this is similar and recommend making your own.

Keeps for a long time and amazing on pulled pork
I believe the one I made omits the salt as best to pre salt the meat overnight to build favour and reduce moisture

    • Most rubs have salt but my experience has been that the taste profile (for salt) is balanced i.e if you put on more rubs the meat gets salty but other parts of the rub also get a stronger profile (e.g. pepper, heat).

The sample pack is extremely overpriced, so while this seems to be a good deal, the recommendation to pay $50 for 250g of mixed spices leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

For comparison the Gift Pack would let you sample 4 of the most popular spices and pay $47 for 520g

Or just get 340g of one of the most popular & acclaimed mixes for $20.

As something of a BBQ connoisseur, based on the ingredients list alone I would recommend going with the signature rub - the "magic ingredient" in the "magic rub" appears to mostly be sugar, which can easily be added into any other rub and costs a couple of bucks a kilo vs paying $60 a kg for it in a spice mix.

In a way I do agree. The sample sizes are small and one does seem to pay a premium in terms of grams. But for me it was a good way to try out the different rubs from Lane's beyond the few popular ones. I still kept the packets to have a sniff etc when I'm undecided about doing different recipes.

Great post OP, love their rubs. Going to give their sauces a try too~

  • Love this stuff. The Q-Nami one is so good on steak

    • Have always wanted to try the Q-Nami myself!

Qnami is awesome. Pork. Beef. Seafood. Even in noodles!

  • When do you usually rub your meat?

    • Before the cook usually. Lots of videos on youtube especially Aussie content creators like Low And Slow Basic and Schuey
