Hornwort is a great plant to help clean up any excess nutrients from your aquarium water (This helps with Algae and keeping your fish healthy). Since it is a floating plant, it gets all its nutrients from the water-column, and is great paired with fish or even in ponds.
The only requirement is a fairly strong light, but as long as you have a dedicated light or sunlight that should be enough.

These are plants, they do not have an issue.
A number of studies have shown that plants feel pain, and vegetables are picked and often eaten while still alive.

AFAIK this isn't a floating plant at all and will require planting in a substrate. It will grow flowers at the surface once it reaches it and supplemental CO2 injection is recommended for optimal health and growth.
We have actually Miss-Identified the name of the plant. It is called Hornwort (Ceratophyllum Demersum) and listings have been updated. This plant is mostly floating as stated (Our description was from my experience with it, did not realise the listing had the wrong name).

Would tadpoles be okay with this?
There should not be a problem with Tadpoles that I am aware off no. I'd recommend double checking with a search for Hornwort though.
