Seiko 5 Sports SRPD59K - Automatic for $249 Delivered (RRP $499) @ Starbuy

410

We all know the RRP is a joke here but still good savings from normal sale price of 300+. It is a good piece for sports with Hardlex Glass and 100m WR.

Though not my taste but might help someone. And yeah that see through back cover is a cool thing for few.
P.S. - It is hand winding.

You can buy from Amazon for $291.68 + delivery/prime

Thanks OP, nice looking watch, reminds me of this one I've been eyeing on Amazon https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B08GQCPPQ8/?coliid=I3PJK50YSMRK…

but this would be better quality - just wish there were more with sapphire around as I inevitably
scratch my glass ones and then can't stand looking at it.

    • +6

I feel like people get too focused on Sapphire glass when I've bashed the shit out of my mineral and not seen any lasting damage yet… besides a replacement crystal is pretty affordable if things got that bad.

      • +3

Yes but with good reason, almost every glass watch I’ve owned I’ve scratched and there it is staring me in the face. I have maybe 7 sapphire watches, all look like new. So while you’ve had good experience for me the opposite with glass unfortunately

    • You can purchase watch screen protectors from AliExpress. Usually the protectors last 1 to 2 months and are relatively cheap. It's basically a hydrogel screen protector in the shape of a watch dial. Just make sure to use a dust collector sticker before applying the protector.

      • +1

Just pay a watch repair guy to replace the mineral with a sapphire instead.

    • +2

Agreed. I literally refuse to buy a watch without sapphire. I've made an exception for Apple Watch but that's about it.

      • I used to be sapphire only, but now I like acrylic too for a vintage aesthetic. Plus they are usually very thick, so you can polish them regularly. It doesn't need any AR coating and weighs less than sapphire. My SKX009 Hardex still looks new.

        • Interesting, will keep an eye on that option. Cheers.

    • I've never scratched hardlex ie Seiko's glass crystal for the cheaper sporty watches, including SRPD59K.

Defiantly a nice looking watch and a good price, ended up getting an Ex Demo Alpina Seastrong Diver 300, from my local watch shop for $350 (RRP $2,220), fantastic watch and has all the benefits I need for when I get back in the air this year.

    • dang…that's a cracking deal mate. good on ya.

Ex Demo Alpina Seastrong Diver 300

Are you planning on going diving?

when I get back in the air this year.

      From the sky!?

Its a GMT watch, I do a heck ton of work in London and Manchester over June and July. And frequent calls to colleagues up there, quick way on not how to piss them off at 4AM.

Great price! If I didn't already have the srpd63 I would have gone with this. Ended up settling with the heimdallr monster pvd as my orange dial beater :)

Thank you for mentioning the current going market price and not relying on the inflated RRP. Other watch posters take note.

:) thought of being as helpful as I could…i put specifications from seiko official website as well so fellow mates don't have to dig

Starbuy does have cracking deals, my citizen from last deal came, very nice watch for the money!

    • +1

my citizen auto arrived today …. not sure why I bought it and when I like ecodrives but it had a great price (under $200) and is wr200 so won't go astray.

      • It looks and feels a lot nicer than expected. I also bought the previous citizen diver for around $129 but this has a nicer dial and bezel!

Automatic has its charms when you want something different!

I do miss the days when the discontinued sarbs and skx were available at a discount. But this watch is good value if someone likes the orange!

This is fantastic value! Tempted to buy one for "research" !

Thanks for the heads mate but that deal today is because of me. I knew they were going to do it and had my order in at 10:01am as it went live.

I contacted them to see if that can offer the price for this deal on the blue version. I won't go into the details but they let me know to keep an eye out for today's deal after they contacted Seiko. They obviously need Seiko to play ball to do deals like this.

The communication and service was awesome so kudos to them and their customer service.

A more effective watch for price and functionality would be the Casio Royale

But yes, Seiko 5s are a great price for an automatic, though in all honesty, all automatics will need to be adjusted due to gradual time drift (in the grand scheme of things, 10 seconds off a day for 86400 seconds per day represents an error rate of 0.01157%.

For most people, a cheap quartz watch like the Casio Royale/Duro (or something fancier if you like) serves the purpose of "telling time accurately" better than any automatic (unless you're going for a Grand Seiko Spring Drive which is a quartz regulated automatic watch) and doesn't require regular shaking/winding..

A more effective watch for price and functionality would be the Casio Royale

Seiko 5 and Casio Royale are never going to be in the same target maket. I can't figure out who would evaluate both in the same purchase.

a cheap quartz watch…serves the purpose of "telling time accurately" better than any automatic

That is true if you consider "telling time accurately" the only purpose for a watch. Given that watches exist that differ in design and price to the Casio Royale shows this is clearly untrue.

Different markets for sure, depending on what you are buying them for
          I have a Seiko 5 (SNXS79)

That is true if you consider "telling time accurately" the only purpose for a watch.

That's the core functionality of a watch, is it not?

Given that watches exist that differ in design and price to the Casio Royale shows this is clearly untrue.

Well we're talking about OzBargain here, for telling the time, the Casio Royale will suffice or your smartphone will do fine

You want to shake something everyday, adjust it once a week/month, be a watch enthusiast, have a piece of tech from the past created to replace grandfather clocks and appreciate the movement of the balance wheel, pallet fork, mainspring, jewels and lume? Don't forget the logbook servicing!

          Das Auto.

You're missing the point between core function and only function.

It's got the right colour scheme!

      • i'd buy two if it came in a black case and bracelet e.g. dark mode :p

I have five Casio G-Shocks of various styles but choose to wear my Seiko Prospex Alpinist or my Tag Heuer. There's more to watches than just a device that tells time.

    • Absolutely on point mate.

I just love casio watches , have couple of others but not one watch fits ALL the ocassions.

For me, armani dress or invicta pepsi are good options to choose from when in hurry for a meetup.
