Computer Alliance Are Not Honouring The Listed Price on Amazon

I just wanted to show how scummy Computer Alliance are. I ordered a Samsung SSD on Amazon from Computer Alliance but a week later got an email from Amazon saying it's no longer available from their suppliers (CA).

I checked the exact same item on Amazon and not only is it still available but they raised the price by $30.

Before I ordered from Amazon, I checked CA's website and it was listed at the same price. I like to order from Amazon to take advantage of their free postage. I checked CA's website again and they've raised the price there too.

Pretty scummy of them not honouring their original listed price. Other websites still list it at or lower than their original price too.

    Sh!t happens

      got a picture?, oh wait
      .

    • +2

Sh!t dosn't happen. Some (profanity) causes it.

      • Yes, food.

    • Obviously they ran out of stock and the new stock came in at a higher prices as is happening everywhere.
And why not just order from CA instead if the price was lower there?

The only (self -entitled) scummy person here is OP - using their own words

      • You say obviously, but on what basis? You ask "why not order from CA if the price was lower", but it wasn't as per the post. You then pay out on the OP with no basis. Hmmm, I think you just like to create a stir my friend.

        • -4

YOU obviously did NOT read the post.
          For your benefit

"Before I ordered from Amazon, I checked CA's website and it was listed at the same price."

Perhaps it is YOU that likes to create a stir

Stock shortages everywhere, prices going up everywhere, even when the gov claims inflation isn't an issue.

CA doesn't need to honour anything and sell at a loss.

      Interest rates don't stack shelves.

Timber prices have gone up but has the sun stopped shining or the rains stopped? If it is a supply chain issues caused by pandemic then raising interest rates isn't going to magically vaccinate people and heal people in ICU. Blame it on people at home with nothing else better to do than to order stuff.

      • +1

        then raising interest rates

Huh? I said INFLATION which isn't interest rates that you're waffling on about…

        • I mean, they raise interest rates AFTER inflation happens to try to rope it back in, so maybe netjock was saying in this abnormal environment the normal inflation fix is tits on a bull but likely all they'll do?

        • In netjock's words..
Blame it on people at home with nothing else better to do than to waffle on about nothing

There is an implied representation as to availability when something is advertised for sale however, there was an express representation as to the inavailability of stock made by Amazon - presumably passing on information received from CA.
If this representation was false - i.e. there was stock available from their supplier - then they have breached the ACL and it is actionable.
They just rely on most people not giving enough of a damn - like you.

There still is stock, it was listed on Amazon under the old supplier buy price at a guess that has recently gone up like everything else and CA was a bit slow in catching it.

Hence why the OP can see still CA selling the same item now $30 more on Amazon.

Pretty sure the ACL says the store is allowed to cancel the sale for a 'pricing' error, which is what CA will claim.

So yeah people like me don't give enough as we know there isn't anything there to complain about.

        • +1

But this is EXACTLY the point - there IS something to complain about.
An order was made for supply of an SSD. That order was cancelled on the basis there was no stock.
          That was not true.
There is no entitlement to cancel an order just because you don't feel like providing the item.
There is a law prohibiting you from telling a consumer something which is not true.
However, given the values involved, they are relying on people not giving a damn - which is why they get away with it and will continue to do it.

Amazon doesn't have a 'pricing error' option to cancel and order, only out of stock.

Ummm yes there is, a business has the right to refuse service, they just can't do it based on discrimination.

There is a law prohibiting you from telling a consumer something which is not true.

Pricing errors happen all the time, heck lots of the deals here are pricing errors.

However, given the values involved, they are relying on people not giving a damn - which is why they get away with it and will continue to do it.

I'm pretty sure CA would have rather the sale and made a profit. Than to cancel the order. Amazon takes a dim view on companies that cancel due to 'stock' issues.

Yes, OP is being rather self-entitled here.

  • +7

You should have made a complaint to Amazon and Computer Alliance instead of complaining on Oz bargain first.

    • +1

nah if op complains here first they have a chance of inciting group outrage that he can use to try and screw down a little independent shop.

    • +2

I didn't because I didn't want to give them my money. I found MSY had them for cheaper so I ordered from them instead. I usually order from Amazon because of their free postage and it's a little easy for when I order stuff for work.

It wasn't a supply issue as they said in the email. If they said, 'hey, prices have gone up, is that okay?'. I would have said no thanks and canceled the order but they just flat out lied and canceled my order.

    Price error, price error.

Anyone know any deals on OzTissues ??

    • +3

      Or ozmicroviolins

  • Same thing happened with my toothbrush heads……..damn Computer Alliance!

  • And here i thought it was an RMA issue….. lol

Complain to Amazon. They're pretty good and will work something out for you if you can prove CA cancelled your order because they made friends with Jack

  • Pretty scummy of them not honouring their original listed price.

It is, but what more can a poor boy do?

  • +1

I didn't even know computer alliance were selling on Amazon

This is typical behaviour from CA, they have been doing it for years, especially during eBay sales (i.e. item will be out of stock during sale, then magically reappear after sale has ended).

I don't shop from them anymore, plenty of other retailers that deserve your money.

    • who? Nearly nobody with reputation left in Queensland. I order if needed interstate, that u company sell old gear.
