    • +6

      these bonuses bonus packs

      bonous?

I still can't stomach other people splurging $2K for this.

    • -6

Those bonuses are only available by ordering through Samsung directly… You can't just get those from Amazon as well.

      • +3

Yes you can, it's just via redemption from Samsung. Vodafone, Optus, Officeworks, JBHi-Fi, etc. are all pushing the exact same bonus offer as well

        • Nah you can get it though all retialers listed into hair website. Once you are successful, Samsung will send you a promo and go to Samsung's website and redeem it.

  • $1350 with bonuses is good. #educationstore.

    • Wait you can get the 256 gb model for $1350 ???

      • Presumably counting the trade in bonus.

256 is $1600. Then a bonus 250 off with any trade in, in addition to trade in value. Also has $200 of free accessories.

        • I paid $1200 for s22 Ultra on edu store a few days ago when they had a glitch with 200 accessories off. Paid $700 on Samsung and $500 to trade up app.

          • +2

            @abs898: Also don't forget free Samsung care+

            • @abs898: why do u need it?

              • @javawoo: So I can use my phone without a case and get a replacement right before selling it.

                • @abs898: isn't the replacement is republished one?

                  • @javawoo: Yes but what difference does that make?

                    • @abs898: it's still not new.

so of u pay 300 to 600 for 2 year.

maybe use it for trade in option is better

i dunno just trying to understand

                      • @javawoo: If I drop my phone and the screen breaks, I can get it replaced for $150, 2 times.

                        • @abs898: oh if consider that as insurance, it's price worth!!

                          • @javawoo: It's not an insurance but 2 replacements are worth it!

                            • @abs898: i know :) just consider it like insurance then cost is understandable.

      • Yes. I am quoting for 256gb model

        • Could you explain how please ?

          • @TerryJustTerry: 1600 edu store price for s22 ultra 256gb.
Bonus 250 off via tradeup. Equals 1350.

            • @Crustydumpling: Damn thats so good!

Do you get the bonus welcome pack thing as well ?

              • @TerryJustTerry: You get $200 worth of accessories on discounted price too.

              • @TerryJustTerry: No bonus pack on education store. You do get $200 of free accessories though (at 30pc off) but there's limited stock compared to regular store and quite a few things are sold out. Eg 65w power adaptor, buds 2, etc. To be honest it's kinda hard to get $200 of accessories in the education store.

Once upon a time flagship phones were barely within reach of the common Joe who was interested enough.
The Galaxy S up to the Galaxy S4 were all at or under the $800 mark on the street, sometimes even less.
Why is it these things have gained no significant improvement in usability (even losing features in some cases) yet have gone up in price so severely?

Hard to find a sensible phone in 2022, no one makes such a thing.

If i could have a galaxy S4 but with modern CPU, GPU, memory and storage I'd be happy.
I hate this whole game of chasing 'screen to body ratio' and 'thinner is better'.
Bezels help with durability, wrap around glass is a liability and ads nothing to the user experience.
There was no good reason to do away with removable batteries, some love to claim that it makes the phone thinner which has been proven to be pretty much bullshit with a few very thing models appearing here and there with removable batteries.

Mobile phones have gone backwards in the last 10 years.
Nokia were starting to look like they might have some interesting stuff, but they haven't launched anything with any better CPU than a Snapdragon 400 series in a few years.

Do a 5-6inch display, 1920x1080, a bit of a bezel so you have something to hold, OLED for better contrast, blacks, efficiency and potential for always on display features.
Pair it with a middle of the road SoC, say SD600 series, add 6-8GB of ram, pop in 64GB of high speed on board flash for OS and apps, a uSD card slot off it for user added storage for media.
Now give the bastard a ubiquitous charging method, totally industry standard.. a Type C port with USB PD.
Give it a TRRS headphone socket, a back cover with integrated NFC antenna that connects via pogo pins because the back cover comes off so the battery can be swapped or replaced. Optionally, add wireless charge if people need it so badly.
1 Camera front, 2 on the back for just a little choice, an LED flash for lighting the scene just a little and for flash light utility.

Test it well, make it durable, give it a good warranty and finally don't cripple it with bloatware, optional open boot loader.
Give it an RRP of $999 and set a new standard of customer support by making it serviceable and making parts freely available.
Don't have a bullshit situation where a screen replacement costs half as much as a new device.

There you have a recipe for a phone that would be a benchmark in the industry, would minimise eWaste and prove popular to people for all walks.
The brand that offered it might not get rapid repeat sales if it is built well and durable, but this would be made up for by having a favourable reception by customers lead to picking up more customers followed by long term repeat business.

This is what the world needs.

    • +1

      Because Apple.

      • +1

Never been interested in an apple device.

But if what you're saying is that manufacturers are misunderstanding us and thinking we want apple like crap then you're right i guess.

    • -1

I mean, what you describe is a pixel 6

      • Pixel 6 isn't even close for the following reasons.

        • Too little bezel, goes against durability
        • No front facing stereo speakers (not in my post above, but I meant for it to be)
        • Lack of durability and design for longevity
        • No card slot
        • Mediocre warranty
        • Closed bootloader (my definition of an open bootloader is that opening it does not void warranty on the hardware).
        • Expensive repair
        • Lack of genuine parts availability

Given the size and form factor of a smartphone i don't expect them to be like a PC in terms of repair, but it would be nice to be able to get close at least.

    • +2

Pixel, or Redmi Note, or One Plus….
There a plenty of options. If you don't need the flagship phone, buy something else that's cheaper.

      • +1

That's the problem, i can't fine anything middle of the range.
Everything is either flagship or flagship priced or else it's rubbish.

Pixel is out, misses all my criteria.
I actually have a failed Pixel 3 here with data on it I would like to get off it, nothing critical but would be nice if it were just a case of popping the SD card out.

Redmi Note has poor warranty, poor durability, no parts availability, and I'll even complain that it's too cheap.
I have no issue paying for reliability, durability and longevity and good backing and support.
The 33W charging using USB-PD3.0 is a credit to them though. USB-PD should really be standard now, yet some brands still use other protocols.
If i had a mindset that thought it were OK for devices to be rapidly disposed of this might do, but as per my message you replied to I'm sick of the disposable society we live in and I'm wide awake enough to know that it is unsustainable.

OnePlus are not available locally, and they're pretty stuffed anyway with price.
Getting an device that is a few years old and has dropped in price has the issue of not having much life in the form of software and security updates.

    • -1

You can have a phone like that, but not by clicking on deals for flagships.

      • I can have a phone with removable battery?
A phone where the manufacturer make parts available?
        With good performance and support?
By all means make a suggestion if you can.

        • +1

I'm not going to do your homework for you, because you clearly just came here for a whine.

Suggest scrolling past the flagship deals in future.

          • -1

@suburbanmale: Yeah, I did have a bit of a whine.
And you wrongly thought I was being unreasonable because there clearly are options available.
But then you post something that clearly shows you did not read or comprehend a single damn thing I wrote.
And now you pretend to take the high ground as if I'm being unreasonable.
            You're hopeless.

            • -1

@virtual81: Dude move on from this. We get it, you're picky asf

              • -1

@DoesntEvenMatter: I'm open to a wide range of sizes, a wide range of resolutions, a wide range of brands.

Only things i'm picky on are usability features people have loved but are now gone.
Headphone socket now rare, uSD card slot, equally rare, getting both in 1 phone very rare, really limits the pool.
Add to this poor reliability, durability and support from manufactures makes things even worse.

You really don't want these things in a phone?
These are all sane and sensible preferences.
For you to think not makes me ponder the sense of the average punter these days.

                • +2

@virtual81: There a reason for it. As time goes on for absolutely everything things change from cars, TV, and phones. We lost the headphone jack because its all moved to Bluetooth, we lost the SD slots because internal capacity now run upto a tb and you also get speeds far greater than micro sd cards, where got the equivalent speed card as internal memory you could of just bought the higher cap phone.

Ponder all you like, things change and never remain the same, if you didn't allow things to change you'd still be using that old brick phone you carried around like a briefcase

    • If i could have a galaxy S4 but with modern CPU, GPU, memory and storage I'd be happy.

Oppo A74 5G $311.96 is better and cheaper than Galaxy S4.

      • -1

I hope it's better an cheaper than an S4, i mean there is only like 8 years between them.
Ultimately it's still a no go.
        -Low end CPU
        -Lack of RAM
        - No parts support
        - Too many cameras
        - Too much screen to body ratio
Ultimately it's on the cheap and nasty side.

I think everyone is missing the point.
So many replies are saying you can get xxx for $299 or yyy for $399
I'm not after a cheap phone.
        I'm after a unicorn… a phone that doesn't exist.
I'm after something well designed, well made, middle of the road performance, healthy feature set that has a phone of lasting better than the modern glass backed rubbish.
Something where the screen were unlikely to break, but if it did I could buy a replacement for a non extortionate price from the OEM.

Something AUD$999 RRP that could be bought on sale for $799-$899 here on OzB

        • +1

Didn't google come up with a concept where you could build your phone around module (hence "parts" available) , I can't remember.

Edit: have you heard of fairfone ?
          Only discovered through this article

          Edit2: checkout the video !

          Any thoughts?

          • +1

@ShouldIBuyIt: Yeah, well aware of the Fairphone
They have come a long way, but still have a way to go.

Delivery is only available in Europe
            Price is too high
            Parts availability too low.
            - To their credit they do list spare parts, but it's of no use if they cannot maintain stock.

Another minor peeve, but relevant is lack of 3.5mm headphone socket.
I'm literally posting this on my Galaxy S10+ right now with a low battery and headphones on, but because it has a headphone socket I'm also able to charge.

Out of everything this is the most promising.

    • +1

@ virtual81 I agree but the sad reality is that it is money game. It is all crap when the companies ask you to drop your phones for recycling when the screens are so fragile that with one drop it breaks and the replacement cost is such that one is forced to buy new one instead of repairs. Gorilla glass every year gets tougher in advertisement but softer in reality. I remember near about Apple iPhone 5 launch, there were news that the screens in new phone would be nearly impossible to break with drops. Now that has gone backwards. Who wants edged screen when it makes it hard to use and easy to break. It's the manufacturing companies who benefit from it and that's all they focus on.

      • +1

You seem to be about the only one that gets it.

Completely agree with everything you've said.

The curved screen in practise on my Galaxy S10+ picks up touches when holding it left handed browsing Reddit, and thus triggering the home button on Reddit to be pressed.

I fear for it's durability the way it's designed.

We have an S20FE in the house with a cracked display, nothing we can do about it, they've made it too difficult for the common man to replace and genuine parts don't exist.

I find Gorilla Glass a perfect example of irony.
It's advertised and touted as being so brilliant, yet in practise breaks easily and if you crack your phone screen it's not covered by warranty?
Far as I'm concerned if they want to make such grandiose claims about the glass then they should be obligated to replace it if it breaks.

    • tbh the improvements in camera tech are probably worth the cost alone, i do like my DSLR but its getting to the point where its almost redundant up against these phones (the top end ones)

      • +1

I just want to take random snaps and have a device that is reliable and durable.
Don't forget that it is primarily a smart phone and no everyone needs or is willing to pay for high end cameras.

        Choice should be the buyers.

    • +2

Who hurt you. Tell us how you really feel

      • +1

I still have a Galaxy S and Galaxy S4 that both still work perfectly despite being well used and dropped many times.
None of them have any screen damage.
Back when the bezel had a lip that extended above the screen glass.
They should still be made like that.
        That's how i feel.

  • When is this phone releasing?

    • 3-4/3/22

  • +3

Finally we’re getting Snapdragon in Australia!

  • +3

HODL!!! If you have a phone that is 2-3 years old, it is good enough. Apple and Samsung will keep ripping us off if we keep paying up. There is nothing 'bargain' about a $2000 phone.

    • +1

Depends if you bought your phone new or second hand.
1.If new, you're better off changing/selling every year and pay small increment to keep up-to-date.
2.If second hand, you most likely got a very good price on 2/3 years old phone which may equal to lost value if you had done option 1.
All comes down if you can afford the upfront cost of brand new phone (and risk to damage it which would affect resale value)

I personally buy pixels 2/3 years behind still running latest Android OS.
